Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

Trivial it may be but this head injury protocol is clearly flawed.

As long as they add the time on properly I don’t see a problem with it.

As someone that had a head injury whilst playing sport, I can say that even what looks like the most trivial thing might not be.

That’s not to say some players try and take advantage of it though. Just make sure the times added on so it’s minimised as much as possible.

Refs hate sending a player off for DOGSO they are conscious of the ramifications especially in an import game more so when it early Lets face it if If they had applied the letter of the law he would have gone and yeah potentially spoilt the game for millions world wide
So, what would be a better option? For me the ref should award a penalty goal and the player stays on the pitch yellow card if it want an honest attempt to get ball
This would mean it remains 11 v 11 and the offending team still have the chance to get back
Would also discourage the foul in the first place

All I ask of the Officials is, just do the Job you are paid for, the rules are in black and white, it doesn't matter what you feel is right, you are neutral and there to do your job, to rule by the book

Let's not forget Palace was 1.0 up at the time, then their Keeper saved a penalty and a great save from Doku

conscious of the ramifications especially in an import game ?
You can bet ramifications of how they got to the decision will be highlighted and questioned even more by just making the wrong choice of doing nothing,

The other issue is when we do have the time and space hitting teams on the break "on rare occasions" like today we always tend to slow it down, turn back, wait for the opposition to get back in position and then we carry on...It's frustrating as fuck.
Yep KDB and Akanji being the main culprits.

83,000 there today and the Lino had the fifth best view of that in the stadium
It just doesn't make sense. The linesman looks a little behind play in this photo. Nevertheless the decision by VAR was disgusting. . They said on TV that VAR looked at this and sad the ball was going away from goal. No it wasn't. The keeping handled it and made it go in that direction. Its as clear as day. Cheats!

But it’s affect is more than just time. A player going down with a ‘ head injury’ this will result in the ball being dropped to his team.

It could be that the fans are fucked in the head of course, this being the only team that haven't lost any of their last 6 PL matches.

It could be that some fans are so fucked in the head that they are incapable of working out that a team that has had two major season long injuries to key players, one being the Ballon d'Or winner and the other being by far our best player pre-season, along with very lengthy injuries to several others, with no less than 11 players out at one point, is going to fuck up your season as it would any other club.

Yet here we are again having the same stupid debate .
I presume the other player is Bobb who has somehow become a superstar in his absence. excuses ,excuses ,excuses. You adapt to compensate for these absences not continue playing the same shite every week and hoping it somehow clicks.

Just got home. We were getting results, and then we change it last week and then again today. Coming out of the ground at Southampton, I thought it would be better today but it wasn’t. Why change a winning side. Palace weren’t good, and something needs to be done in feigning head injuries to stop play. Wasn’t impressed with the Palace tactics, but we weren’t good enough to break them down. I’m not sure many around me knew what was going on with VAR check for their keeper. We bring back Akanji who I thought was poor, and leave Nunes out who was playing well. Serious questions need to be asked why Haaland bottled out of that penalty. Both he or Kevin should have stepped up, really really poor. Ortega offers nothing offensively at all. Sav had a poor game and Doku flatters to deceive. Foden looked like he didn’t want to play, and bottled out if a couple of challenges. Throwing Echimessi when he hadn’t been given any minutes previously, seemed like a random throw of the dice, even though I think he could be a really good player. Nobody can tell me that Jack wouldn’t have offered more today. As with the Southampton game we seem to run out of ideas on and off the pitch. Whether this was just a poor performance, or all focus is on CL I don’t know. I think the players short changed the fans today. There was a lot of frustration around me today, and lots of people saying they are bored with the football we are playing. I just hope that the focus is on three points on Tuesday and we don’t get distracted. If the rags get CL and we don’t that will top the season off nicely. I think most of us just want the season to end now, but then we have the club World Cup circus to look forward to. At least we don’t have the community shield nonsense.

Why have we gone from overloading wide areas, Getting beyond teams down the sides playing that pass in the channel in between the centre back and full back for our overlapping player to get onto and pull it back for a tap in...To now playing it out wide to pass it back inside to a congested area in which there's absolutely no space and near impossible to break down...
Because our wingers both prefer to come inside on their better foot.

The more you watch the clips of it, the worse it gets

I even think the Palace defender pushes Haaland as well

Doku and Savio ffs. Have we had two wingers who offer us fuck all. They look busy players cause they are quick and take players on but their end product is absolutely zero.
I think they are so ineffective because their final ball is always with their weak foot and therefore not with conviction. Just my opinion.

Fair enough, you probably know a lot more about it than me. I did notice Guardiola made the point earlier about it stopping the momentum. Could be he was just deflecting though.

It’s the right time for Kev to leave.
Haaland isn’t the monster we thought he was.
VAR is a crock of shit.
We’ll be lucky to scab a CL spot.
A serious refresh is needed if we want to challenge for anything next season.

That’s about it from me
The highlighted bit I don't agree with.
Haaland is a monster we're just not playing to his strengths currently - was always an odd signing for a Pep side but obviously we couldn't say no

Because our wingers both prefer to come inside on their better foot.
It's more so tactical changes than the personnel?

We had Mahrez and Sterling who both liked cutting into thier preferred foot, The obvious difference is that we don't have anyone overlapping our wingers and it's making it easier for the opposition back five who aren't being dragged out of position like an old Pep team would normally do, We miss the likes of an old Kyke Walker massively making runs in beyond our wingers even as a decoy and alot of the time he doesn't receive the ball but it's movement that causes opposition problems.

It's just all to static and pedestrian now.

Yep, Januarys window is looking like a waste of money, just like some previous ones.
Play a final with no LB or RB or no 2nd striker on the bench but spent over 150 million in January and 3 of the 4 players can’t get a game
I am convinced we will see the best of Gonzalez next season when he plays with Rodri. Defensive midfield is not his natural position.

I think regardless of how we played. We’re missing that go to player. Kev as amazing as he’s been for us isn’t that guy anymore but who is?

We’ve always been relying on someone else but who is there ?

Doku and Savinho aren’t good enough.

We need to spend big.

Pep needs a break and should walk away with his head held extremely high
