Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

Why didn't Rico get another go in midfield yesterday worked fine against Forest, but oh no he's nowhere to be seen in the squad full stop, not heard he's injured or anything. At least he brings energy on to that field something that is badly missing this season

23 attempts but not many clear cut.
How many of them were Doku shooting from the edge of the area or KDB shooting from outside the box in desperation.

They sat back and allowed us to come at them and we had no way of cutting through.

No plan B, a poor plan A and players who aren’t good enough at this level or too old to do it anymore.

Our XG was 2.23, take out the penalty which would be 0.99 it’s 1.22 from 22 shots.
That shows the quality of our attempts.

Nah, we created enough chances to score at least 2 goals. The penalty is 0,75, and the xG would be even higher if Henderson didn't deflect the ball with his hand outside the box, Haaland could have scored from there.

We played much better than vs. Southampton but had a bad day in terms of finishing. We created fewer chances vs. Everton and Villa but managed to score 2 goals in each of those games.

Henderson should have been off. That was a very bad decision against us.

Of course, we have problems. Pep will have to build a new team. We are likely to have a brand new midfield next season (Rodri's like a new signing). Time will tell whether Pep can do it again.

So factualy incorrect:
- KDB had great shooting opportunity when hit the guy into the head, similarly one of the Doku chances,
- penalty XG is far lower than 0,99 (around 0,6),
- many link up plays been very close, just unlucky and those plays are not included in XG at all,
- theres been plan b, to put out there players good in small spaces: Foden, Echeverri, it almost worked out well with Claudio chance, which been a capital chance
I’m sorry.
You’re right I was wrong about XG for a penalty apparently it’s about 0.76, so you’re also factually incorrect.

It was so fucking great he couldn’t get it past the first man. And not factual more of an opinion.

I’m sorry then it would take the XG per shot to what then? About 0.067 per shot, wow what a great XG.
I get a lot of people don’t like this stat but I think it’s a decent way of working out quality of attempts.

Echeverri made his debut.
They brought him on when we were 1-0 down in a final… no pressure on him there and Foden has been shit all season.
Again is it a factual inaccuracy or an opinion, please enlighten me.

So I apologise, we were so brilliant. Thank you for making me aware of my factual inaccuracies.

Gutted.

Congratulations to Crystal Palace, their 1st ever major trophy, can't begrudge them that.

I actually don't think we were that bad, probably the better side but horrendous finishing cost us again. A better side from previous years probably would have created more chances though.

Now for the big one, VAR. It won't help but PGMOL owe the club a massive apology. As far as I'm concerned VAR should no longer exist after that game. It should have been 70mins against 10 men.
The decision to not send Henderson off has cost us a trophy today.

It's the worst decision in the history of VAR and Jared Gillett should be sacked.
This opening post to this thread says everything about that match. With the greatest respect to the hundreds of other posters on it even though our performances are below the standards of recent years we were the better side and deserved to win. That VAR decision was a disgrace and then the performance of the perpetrator kept them in it. The fact that the beneficiaries of that decision were a distant club who had never won a trophy makes it easier to take. If that had been the rags or the dippers I would have been fuming.

Controversial..but Pep needs to step down. He is to close to some players that he obviously favours. We no longer create 10 -15 chances per game. I'd bring Bobby Manc back for 1 year. Let him assess squad during that time...we have quality there, no doubt, but being overlooked by pep. Club can then consider long term manager.

Extremely frustrating performance, going through the motions from muscle memory and basically”we have always played like this so today’s no different” even though it was plain to see it was ineffective, hunger from Palace was noticeable, the handball was a disgrace most of the country wanted the plucky underdogs to win, shaped by a shit media, something doesn’t add up in this team and the way it’s set up.Haalands trying to whip up support from the fans after giving up the chance to take a penalty, not in Viking mode there.Malaise, stale boring pass to death football with no sign of a plan B.

Haaland picked the ball up, kissed it, but the prolonged delay as that cheating bastard on VAR tried to find a reason to overrule the penalty seemed to unnerve him. Shit as we were the PIGMOB bastards played their part.
£500,000 a week and you can’t take a penalty in a cup final. As a striker you should be relishing that opportunity. At that stage Kev should have stepped up as a senior player to take it. Really poor leadership in this side.

Spot on, Peps head has gone. Unless he walks we have two more years of this shite.

Like I said there is something wrong in this squad no leaders or anyone of the ilk of Kompany and Merlin who led by example. We meandered through games and it is reminiscent of the rags

It was a long day yesterday, as it always is travelling from Manchester to London and back . Felt very flat coming back on the train, I thought we defended well, but we struggled to break Palace down despite having the lions share of possession. Both Doku and Savinho had little impact on the game and Kev was was very quiet.

Big rebuilding in the Summer where we need to ensure we bring in quality players.

Then why sign them? Transfers the last 4 windows have been fucking awful.
Well this is it…i agree, horrendous.

Jan, probably being the worst of the lot.

There's only one model that has stood the test of time, and that's Madrids! You consists tly look to buy best in class, off the peg ready cooked.

No room for bargains now, this team needs 5 or 6 starters to come in, all top draw.

It ain't going to happen though.

Didn’t want to post in here last night as wanted to digest but i think Pep needs to to go and it’s really tough to say that.

He has become desperate and unpredictable with his team selections and tactics.

I also think Khusanov and Nico G have been treated really poorly.

The team selection yesterday meant we couldn’t change anything from the bench. And the actions on the pitch at the end were embarrassing.
