Atmosphere 2024/25

Palace was singing from the 1st minute to the last and made the atmosphere.
Our fans? Only heard them when we got the penalty. Nothing apart from that.
But like someone alluded to in a previous post this was Palace's first final in a long while so you'd expect their end to be up for it whereas our end was probably on their 20th trip to Wembley which in turn makes for a different atmosphere.

Add to the fact we've had a god awful season then we aren't exactly going to be bouncing into the stadium.

That's one of the reasons why the club doesn't let European Ultra fans/groups bring a drum into the Etihad for a CL game.

It's hard enough to match their constant vocal support without a drum, but with a drum, and a good drummer(like the Palace fan is, which I said he was), we've got absolutely no chance.

I thought our display was better than their display. When you consider how much they spent on their display. All the telescopic flags were out, some two sticks, the KDB surfer banner, the club flags, and a few smokies. It created quite spectacle. When Palace finished their Tifo display, we carried on waving the flags, etc.

After the display our support died a death. It was probably one of our worst supports ever at Wembley. The constant singing and noise from the Palace fans, and Palace scoring first, pretty much crushed our support from the off.

It explains why the Villa fans in the semi-final had a similar experience to us.

I wonder what the demographics are in 1894? Our away support is one of the best, if not the best, in the country. But at home it can be a bit flat with people spread out - stadium acoustics and being on different tiers doesn't help.

I get we have had a lot of finals but after a season like this with our only opportunity of a trophy I thought it would be absolutely buzzing in the City end yesterday. I could see the section 1894 had organised and didn't look like many were trying to get songs going.

Even after their goal was disallowed and Haaland tried to get the City end going there was no reaction.

I do hope the club can get some younger fans together with season tickets in the new North Stand.
Haaland needs to get himself going first and foremost.

The atmosphere from our end was shite yesterday. I hate palace and their ultra shite but the big difference is you could see just about everyone joining in, at our end maybe 10% joined in, it’s the same dynamic at home games, the vast majority don’t join in at City, unlike other clubs, just sit with their arms folded, useless fuckers mostly. I was in the 1894 section yesterday and despite the best efforts of the 1894 group there were swathes of tourists, families, people who looked like they had never been to a game before. At least half and half singers and arm folders, how were those tickets allocated? Final thing, this shit about OSC and allocations - 6k to each apparently - they seem to have had first dibs on the best tickets and so regular fans were not able to get these seats, how is that fair, how does that improve the atmosphere? I appreciate that plenty of our good legacy fans are in OSC’s but there are fucking huge numbers who aren’t - in Southampton I was talking to 2 OSC branch chairs, great lads both, during the course of the evening I asked both how many OSC members applied for cup final tickets and how many got them - OSC 1 55 applied, 55 got them, OSC 2 about 100 applied and all got them - no need for season tickets, no need to be in the cup scheme, no need for loyalty points, no need to have even been to a game this season ffs - I don’t blame the OSC’s, in this society if you can get something it seems you take it but the club needs to take a hard look at itself as policies like these and the non season ticket issuing have killed our atmosphere. Yesterday was shocking, whatever we think of shit palace “ultras” they were loud all day and we were quiet.
You go in on OSC’s but it’s a fact that the organisation of branches actually helps City sell Wembley tickets. We are in a period where we’ve been that often, fans have Wembley fatigue as the novelty has worn off. The price of tickets has increased massively, which will switch more Blues off if it’s not easy to get ticket / travel all in one go. I wouldn’t like to think what the attendance would have been for the semi and maybe even the final without OSC attendance.

Seemed to be a strange crowd. I was on the 1st tier near the corner flag but didn't seem to be our usual crowd.

I, possibly a little harshly and too rigorously, had a go at the guy stood next to me because he decided an fa cup final was an appropriate time to phone his wife and have a chat.
Even a chat the missus is better than the excuse of a game (both sides) imagine that!

we have a very old match going fan base compared to most clubs ..that makes a huge difference... I imagine a lot of our support sacrifice a hell of a lot re % of their budget plus it looks like a genuine struggle health wise for many. You need up an for it young crowd to make it happen..ours look too stoned mostly ha

Osc's have a lot of St's as well though

No don’t misquote me. I didn’t go all in on OSC’s, I said that many of our regular/OSC’s are in OSC’s. What I commented on was the unfairness that ANYONE in an OSC, even if they had never been to a game, could get a ticket in advance of non OSC supporters with season tickets, on the cup scheme and with 25k plus LOYALTY points, and that also gives them first dibs on the best and cheapest tickets. That is what I commented on, not at all “all on on OSC’s”. If you think an OSC member who hasn’t been to a game all season, or even ever, taking priority over lifelong season ticket holders, cup scheme members etc, then you are naive and selfish. No wonder legacy fans as we are now known are becoming more and more disenchanted, and no wonder OSC members love KP as he gets them all the tickets they want. If you are wondering why the atmosphere was shit yesterday I think this was a big part of it. The only body that does anything for the total fanbase is 2894 but tbh that was fucked up yesterday as there were so many seemingly disengaged fans in that section. I also said I don’t blame OSC’s, if the club allows them to do it then they will do it, and they did

Question for 1894, were the club allowing anyone who requested a ticket in the 1894 section to buy a ticket in that section, or did they definitely sell just to people on the list? Or did loads of people who were on the list end up not buying in that section? I was on your list but allocated a ticket out of the section, rang up to change it (3 of us) to the 1894,section. Told the club I needed one for a lad (regular ST holder) who hadn’t got on the 1894 list and they offered me one in the row behind which was also in the 1894 section, which suggests the club were offering your tickets to people not in your list. And this was in day one or day two of the sales

It’s unfortunately the way City are now. Too many tourist / plastic fans ( I have to include myself in that) and not enough old school true die hard fans.

Too many there to be ‘entertained’ and not there to be 100% behind the team

It’s shocking what’s happened with the support but the lack of atmosphere does affect the players and is a huge disadvantage in games

I watched the game in a pub in Kefalonia and a family all wearing City gear got up and left for their dinner with 15 minutes to go. WTF!!!!
Agree this shit state of sitting on our hands doesn't lift the players. Palace oddly were terrible with the ball yesterday but their fans helped them defend like deamons....our lot, including me were an embarrassment. Haaland waving his arms to us..we just stared at him non plussed! It was the worst cup final crowd ever..from anyteam ..lets have it right

At Southampton we never stopped singing all game long. Song after song. Didn’t improve the performance though :)

Fair enough, you didn’t go “all in” on OSC’s. I just don’t think it was part of the problem yesterday. I went with the OSC, got my ticket off my own points and cup scheme membership, everyone around me on the coach was a regular and majority season ticket holders. My point was also that it’s mutually beneficial for OSC’s to get final allocations as it’s not as easy to sell Wembley tickets as it was back in 2011, 2013, 2014. That should be taken into consideration as well.

Palace fans are great. Closest thing we have to ultras in this country.

Is there any reason why we can’t /wont do something similar even better than that. Can it be that difficult? Get everyone to wear a colour to stand out , bang a drum , jump up and down together.

or are we too posh/ shy/ apathetic/conservative to do that.

You have to admit that it looks great and really creates an atmosphere.

What’s your thoughts?

Our end sounded like the Etihad yesterday, the only difference being there was a big away support. Apart from the biggest games, the 'singing' sections at the Etihad are non-existent most of the time and then you go to Wembley are spread them around the place.

Palace has been one place I'd like to take a game in at, as their atmosphere always seems good on TV and different than anything else you get in the PL. Yesterday there were 40k of them singing the same thing at the same time. Simple songs, often just one or two words, but it worked.

I'm actually just about old enough to have witnessed the final Maine Rd season. Assuming most of the same fans on the Kippax are now on the South stand or that corner, why is what worked back then failing now? A singing section not singing is a problem.

I don't actually think a poor atmosphere for a small game is a problem, but i think when Villa fans inevitably start singing "football in a library" 3 seconds after kickoff, there should be a reposte ready.
Lets be honest Maine Road was often quiet as well.. my old fella puts it down to dour northerners approach to life..which intend to afree with. Of course there were grear days on the Kippax, Charlton promotion day etc...but a lot of quiet days from mid 70's onwards in reality
