Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

Foden won PFA Player of the Year last season. There's clearly something happening off the field or with his health that has impacted him this campaign. Pep can't pick up a controller and make Phil do what he wants him to.

IF Phil is suffering from ill health (physical or otherwise), why throw him on to try to change the game? Why is he even on the bench? Why isn't he at home resting / receiving treatment?

If Phil is fit, he was ready. If he's not, he shouldn't have been there.

The only mystery is why a completely out of form and/or unfit player was expected to suddenly return to PFA POTY level in a cup final, when alternatives were on standby.

Pep is taking the piss out of everyone now. He's lost the plot.

I'm talking about his season overall. Who is he taking the piss out of exactly?!

How have people got to the stage where they're ready to throw in the towel on the greatest manager our club has ever had, by a fucking distance, over one bad season. A season we've still made a cup final and could qualify for the CL?

6 PL titles. 4 League Cups. 2 FA Cups. 1 x CL, Super Cup, Club World Cup. A domestic treble, 100pts, the treble. 4 league title in a row.

Some of the best football we will ever witness, or has ever been seen.

This season has been a disaster compared to the standards he has set.

A poor transfer window, a load of injuries including one to the best player in world football. There's a reason we've had to play this sterile, turgid football. It's a results business and it's brought improved results. The next step will be better performances and a more attractive style of play. There's no way Pep is enjoying what he's watching either.

It's fans who have lost the plot with their ridiculous expectations. He's delivered an English record 4 titles in a row, with a treble tucked in their for good measure and people are ready to bin him off because of one year they've not enjoyed watching us? Who do we bring in to bring the fun times back?

Yeah but other than all that mate, what has Pep Guardiola ever achieved in football or done for City. Haha.

I think Sam Lee has been useful on this. In the second half of the season Pep has resorted to the most defensive football he's ever played because he has had to make us hard to beat. It's just we have a romantic image of the 4-4-2, celebrating every cleared ball, but we don't have a romantic image of Pep's version of defensive football which is get the ball in their half and don't lose it. I don't think Pep loves it easier but this has been the only solution with the players he had.
Agreed but against Southampton in a must win game?

I can take a trophyless season but please just give us some entertaining football again.
That's what I said in a previous post. As long as there's a reintroduction of young energetic players allowed to play then I won't mind another trophy less season, we need to go back to the era of having an 22 to 27 as the average age on the team

Pep Guardiola on whether Erling Haaland will take City’s next penalty: “I did not talk with them about it"

Pep Guardiola says he has not spoken to Kevin De Bruyne about his availability at the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

Pep Guardiola on whether he has reviewed #ManCity's FA Cup Final: "I didn't see the game"

Pep you should do your job lol

Think he’s backing Phil to show he has faith in him to overcome whatever mental-physical problems he has

What's this new hippie free spirit management that Pep is trying out there? Are they playing the Ukelele, using psychedelics and blowing bubbles in the training session now?

Our revenue and transfer options will not be materially impacted by missing out on CL football. You cannot discount the money the club will make from the CWC out of one side of your mouth then say out of the other that missing out on 30/40 million pounds of CL prize money does impact what can be spent. We're lucky that the CWC will fill be a huge financial bonus for the club regardless of whether we finish 5th or 6th.

In terms the club's actual transfer budgets for this summer, we're well enough run that they won't be decided by CL football. They have already been decided which is why transfers are already being worked on. As I said to you yesterday the club won't want to target players who aren't prepared to join whether we finish 5th or 6th. Players sign contracts over 5 - 6 years, not for 12 months. Which is why United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, have all signed top players at some point in the last decade without CL football. The wages are what matter in most cases.
Quite remarkable, and a little odd, that you’re still arguing about this.

If we miss out on the CL, our revenue (which includes the CWC money) will be reduced relative to a situation where we do qualify. Therefore we have less money available for transfers, less room for manoeuvre regarding PSR.

It really isn’t that difficult to understand.

It's great to give the responsibility to the players to do what they want, but sometimes pep you be the manager and tell Haaland that doesn’t matter; you miss penalties, you’re taking them! It's like if they ask him about set pieces, he says he leaves it to the players! We see Marmoush puts in a quality corner, so why is it not being taken on corners or at least taken a few a game!?

You’re wrong. It’s remarkable how wrong you are and how much you’re sticking your chest out whilst being wrong.

Firstly, inform yourself on our PSR headroom. It’s very easy to do if you have a calculator and 15 minutes. Once you’ve done that consider how that headroom was created and what it means for the club’s capacity to rebuild the squad. Once you’ve done that factor in the players who will leave this summer and how that will impact our wage bill. Once you’ve done that have a look at the ownership’s record over a decade of investment in the playing squad.

Once you’ve done that you can come back and apologize to me. I’ll be right here.

Who replaces Pep even in 2 years then, Alonso seems flavour of the month but he’s off to Madrid.
Doesn't matter. We cant predict this far out. Arne Slot wasn't high on anyone's list 3 years ago. Now he has walked the league in his first year. Same with Kompany at Bayern

I don't think its the manager in either case, I think its the available talent at their disposal.

2 things have to be in place, a high level of top talent and a core of young talent about to hit their prime.

So if Pep can land us Wirtz, Reindjers, Franca, Cambiasso and Rodrygo to add to the core of Rodri Erling, Gvardiol, Marmoush, Foden, Bobb, Rodri, Echeveri, Reis, Khusanov, etc then the new manager will simply have to add 1 or 2 key players to run his system.

So knowing who the manager is isn't critically important

They'll get the 4 points they need IMO, and if they don't I'm sure they'll have a list of targets that will come regardless. For example, Reijnders/MGW will absolutely join City even if we finish sixth. Ederson definitely gone, and no Ortega won't be given the number 1. Suspect the Costa/Garcia rumours are true and it'll be one of those two coming in.
If Erling and Akanji didn't get healthy so soon, I'd be equally confident. Unfortunately, their return and Pep's tinkering has muddled up what was working.

Im hopeful but clearly not confident.

I wish he wouldn’t refer to the Community Shield as a ‘title’ or ‘trophy’, like he just did in his press conference.

Arsenal fans and Arteta will be buzzing with that one. They've got 3 titles under Legohead's tenure now. Smacks of desperation referring to that as a title and Pep's genuine trophy count speaks for itself so there's no need to. Somebody needs to inform him that we won't be defending that 'trophy' next year as we aren't even in it.

Their is a snobbery in football and the way it should be played thats starts at u6 all the way up to elite professionalism and its become a stain.

My u10s lad was in a tourny yesterday, there was a team who had a coach telling at them for loose passes and insisted his lads ‘played out from the back’ even though they are no where near the level. They kept getting caught out, were getting upset. It wasnt an easy watch

There are a many ways to play football but unfortunately snobbery had taken over in what is the ‘right’ way

he's always answered press conference questions in the most aloof way possible, but now when things seem so out of control it makes you question whether he really just doesn't take enough of a hands on approach?

All well and good until the top-level players we pursue (of which we need a few) chose a club competing in the Champions League over one potentially in the Europa League.

Champions League football is without doubt part of the pull to attract any player to sign, let alone players that could get into most teams in Europe.

We've not got many signings right for the last 5 years whilst being CL regulars and treble winners. I don't think its going to be made any easier if we miss out on CL football even if we do still have the money to spend.
