Haaland was completely shot of confidence. He bottled the pen and then didn't lash in the rebound. From that position, to pass, screams of someone scared of the occasion. Which is bizarre for him.

It's worrying as well, because the game could have gone to penalties so you'd have thought they would have trained and talked about pens in the build up.
You say bizarre but his finals record for us and Wembley record suggests thats the norm for him. He had the ball, he was going to take it but bottled it so as you say, worrying if a shootout was planned prior. Imagine the boost it gives Henderson knowing the best striker in the world (apparently) won't be taking the pen as expected.

He doesnt play to his own strengths.
His runs are none existent , his movememt in the box is appalling and his attitude appears sulky
Can I ask where you sit in the stadium, I’m at the top of SSL3 and Haaland makes fucking loads of runs that are never picked up because no fucker apart from KDB can see them, in fact there’s lots of players that make great runs that are never picked up, I’ll give you his movement in the box is dire but up the pitch that’s bollocks, you can see the lad losing the will to live as he makes those movements and gets fuck all, I’m mean after 40 odd games I’d think sometimes why bother no one will pass anyway.

Haaland is not a good header of the ball. He’s timing on leaping for crosses is very poor especially for someone who is fast and tall. Even when he scores headers they’re not bullet drogba or Cristiano style. They usually loop in. There were instances in the last 2 games where he played like absolute shite, where someone like Drogba would be favourite for the ball, Haaland ran way too late. Truth is, if you’re a winger and Haaland is in the box there’s no point of crossing it. He ain’t doing nothing unless it’s a perfect cross where even a Havertz would score from. Put it this way, the lads 6’5 and not a threat from set pieces. Hes probably scored 2 goals in his City career from heading a cross on set piece. Most of the time he’s not even near the ball. Haaland needs the perfect team for him to thrive, and now that KDB, Grealish , Gundogan and Bernardo are finished, we are FAAAR from a perfect team. Once again, regardless of our poor crossing, he is a 6’5 striker and no one talks about him being a set piece threat, thats alarming. The only headed goal I remember him scoring from a corner are from 2022!!

Cblevel 3

Yeah i know he totally does make runs from deep, see him go and wish someone has seen it, but they havent, they never do. So im with you on that

But when they have sat deep in their own area and we are just sideways passing for an age, the odd time the pass or cross is on, hes stood still and its annoying that hes not that player who is creating movement and space.
Even the ball lofted in, hes not getting on the end of it , the cb will generally out muscle/jump him

I was shouted down at one of his earlier games for us when I said that he didn't look like he could jump his height.

For a 6ft 5inch athlete, he's out jumped far too often at set pieces.

his movememt in the box is appalling
Sorry, what? Thats an outrageously bad claim.

I've never seen anybody with better movement in the box than HaalandThI'd say that's his best attribute. He deliberately hangs off to create space for others to put the ball into knowing that he has a freakish burst of speed and power that's going to get him to the ball before any marker if the ball is played correctly.

That's as bad as saying a prime Kyle walker lacked pace.

He never ever goes to the near post, if we like Saturday or Southampton are camped in box he never pulls defenders out to the edge of the box just to the back post, no point in having a burst of speed in a packed box. We just don’t play to his strengths, I reckon Pep would rather have kept Alvarez and develop him he suits Peps style better.

The following is true (in that it is not true but is my opinion!): He's a fantastic finisher. He never ever goes near post. He is an ok header of the ball. He is very quick over 15 yards. He has pretty much given up making runs behind because he knows the ball isn't coming. He is completely wasted with our current style of play. He would not be used like this at any other club in the world.

At the beginning of the season when Rodri was unavailable I thought the team had it in their heads that he wasn't starting and they got more than a little bit edgy. At the tail end of this season it's Kev's departure that's rolling around with the grey matter. They're wondering where the next assist is coming from. So am I.

He doesn't go near post because we are never in a scenario to make that work. Near post runs work more often when you put in a ball quickly before defenders get a chance to set. That's why they seemingly work all the time against us.

We do the exact opposite, we let the opposition sit 10 men deep and narrow. There's never any space for a near post run against that setup. The back post movement he makes gives him 3 options, getting across his man, getting behind him or pulling out to the penalty spot, it's just statistically an infinitely better decision for the football we play.

If we started playing quickly again I guarantee you'd see different movement. Haaland isn't the problem, he's working within the constraints of a shit gameplan that's not working.

There have been numerous occasions were if he’d have made the run to near post he may have got in rather than them try and chip the ball to back post where he is almost reaching back to get a header as he never comes onto the ball, the reason there’s no near post runs is he makes zero attempts to do it or at least give the crosser and option where to put it hes too static.

After the furore over the FA cup penalty and handing over responsibility to Omar, only for him to pass it back to the keeper, I’m fully expecting a typical City moment this evening.
Erling hat trick incoming. Followed by the cupping of the ears.
(One can hope!!!)

Haaland's movement is great on the counter and in the final third, hes a master of diagonal runs in space but his off ball instincts in the box are pretty shit - either wrong positioning or too slow to react. The obvious problem is the total mismatch between his preferred system and the one Pep plays.

Good. He's one of the most athletic players I have ever seen.

Could he look any less interested if he tried?

That strike by Gundo off the corner kick sums him up currently. In past seasons, he's hustling to get back onside for an easy tap-in off the save; now, he's walking back without a care in the world.
