The Squad planning thread

I would keep Bernardo, you still need that winning mentality in a squad.
I love him and would ideally like to keep him but we need to free some foreign slots in the squad and IMO Kovacic is the more effective player. I also wouldn't like to see him sitting on the bench. He doesn't deserve that.

Both the GK will leave.

Let’s face it pep runs the club and has called all the big decisions since he joined (main reason why it has worked for so long tbf)

This is the first time pep is working with someone outside his close personal circle whilst at city. Given the comments it’s not a great start but I strongly suspect pep will get his way.

I foresee a final season of the old guard next year with Gundo, Bernardo, kovacic etc leaving with pep.

It’s not the right decision for the club imo and it will set us back further but pep is treated like a god by the board so they will bow to his desires.

Thats only because we won last night
Think Silva with a good rest and not having to play every minute could come back and be really good for us once more. Gundo has played too much this season and next season will hopefully be more a bit part player with some coaching input with Kova a squad player too. We need turnover but think that will come via Kev, Ederson, Stones and others going. Cannot loose too much experience too soon.

We can't bring in new players without others leaving. Guardiola stated that he wants a smaller squad but already have too many and couldn't register them all for the CL squad.

That either means shipping a few out and buying nobody or shipping a lot out and bringing in a few. The first option will probably result in a similar season to this one.

On the back of last night’s comments, people might have to dampen their expectations. Fewer people will leave than anticipated (de Bruyne/McAtee/Walker/Phillips/Grealish?) and fewer people will arrive. If people cannot be shifted, then they may have to accept a change in their roles (Ake, Stones, Gundogan), and we may even see some winter signings (Reiss/Khusanov?) loaned/sold with buy-back clauses.

Silva’s comments at the weekend about the big bosses and now Guardiola’s comment last night sound as if they’re from the same hymn sheet: new players need to be first-team ready.

Agree with most of that, I think that's what will happen.
The injury prone and aging players will have to accept new roles on the team or be sold.

People have an obsession with the Jan signings getting game time but both the defenders are still young and still have resale value and with us being 1 point away from CL football, the gamble has almost paid off.

Judging by the reactions

People want to keep
Bernardo
Kovacic
Gundogan

All of them

Pretty much the same old core to continue next season
Nah just Bernardo.

I think Gundo will stay because he has a year left so he almost has to step into the background next season, cup games, maybe some coaching.

Kovacic we cash in on, he's played well in moments this season but he shouldn't be starting for a title challenging side. He should be a backup, which means we should cash in. Somebody will give us our money back for him.
