The Squad planning thread

About where i am, (not checked number though) and could see a curveball somewhere.
That gives us a squad of what, 22? Seems like it'd be more acceptable for Pep to manage. Should even give a bit of space for an academy lad to come into the team every now and then

17 is the limit of non-homegrown right? In which case I just can’t see all the English lads being shipped out this summer, aside from Walker and Philips
Which is why someone like MGW is a move we will be making. We have to sign the best available homegrown talent.

It’s ok having a small squad if you have the right players

The problem we have is keeping hold of injury prone and older players

It’s ok pep saying he doesn’t like keeping players in the freezer but surely he has done that because they are not as good as those selected

Pep/club ruthless with kev and need to be with a fair few more

I'm wondering if it's a bit of a dig at January's recruitment. We signed 2 defenders who were both young and unproven and now our other defenders are back were overstocked. We also didn't resolve the full back issues which will need to be resolved this summer so we'll have even more defenders. There will inevitably have to be casualties to the squad and I suspect Pep will want 4 or 5 proven quality players rather than projects like Echeverri and Reis.
Said this at the time and got shouted down by many. Was a right royal cock up. Didn't really resolve the key issues we had, mainly zero full backs, no back up to Rodri and wingers that couldn't score…

Personally think this is a potential treble winning side with no signings too...

BUY: Rodrygo, Diogo Costa and a top right-back
SELL/LEAVING: KDB, Gundogan, Kovacic, Grealish, Ederson, McAtee, Walker

I don't think we need the huge overhaul most are saying. Our problems stem less from a lack of quality in the squad and more from injuries and form issues. Having Rodri back, Foden refreshed physically and mentally, having Marmoush, Nico, Khusanov, Reis bedded in fully, and then players like Bobb back in the fold with the blank slate of a new season will mean we'll be back fighting on all four fronts

What can we offer Spurs for Van De Ven

Me personally would give both Stones and Akanji just for this guy

You can't be serious... That works out for neither team.

As good as Van de Ven is, he's just as injury prone or moreso than Stones or Akanji. Spurs also wouldn't give us one of their most promising players for any one of our aging players who will just retire after a couple seasons.

Our squad has been thin this year so don’t think we have too many
We do in terms of numbers. 2 couldn't even be registered for the CL.

On top of that Guardiola has said he wants a smaller squad. There will have to be more departures than arrivals. Probably quite a few more.

I suspect you are correct but it would be a mistake I think. If they stay, they'll be played far more than they should. Personally I'd rather see them both leave and Kovacic stay as cover.

You probably need to add Grealish and Phillips to your list of departures. There's also the question of what to do with Nunes.
