If it’s ankle ligament problems then I totally understand, I’ve been struggling with the same for over a year now, not only does it affect your balance, pace etc but mentally it’ll fuck you up in fear of it happening again. I don’t go into 50/50’s anymore, I can only manage one game a week otherwise I can feel the weakness in my ankle.

Hopefully with the resource the club has he’ll get the best treatment and it’ll get sorted.

Would be a massive waste of talent to see him go out like Wilshere.

He will be ok. Glad Phil has come out and gave us all bit more info. He has clearly been underperforming and has a genuine reason as to why that is the case.

Physical health or mental health or both is a real struggle for most. I hope he takes care of himself and the club help him get through whatever is going on.

Take the summer off and we will see u when you are ready.

Weirdly I think people would be much more defensive of Phil if he'd cost 100 million pounds and was coming off the back of an incredible season that saw him win POTS. City fans have always had a habit of tearing their own down going back decades.

You can actually see it in the respective player threads. Grealish seems to be beloved and can't put a foot wrong no matter how bad he's been for two seasons now, whereas Phil has some utter guff written about him because he's had a tormented season playing in a tormented team. In terms of 'credit in the bank' - Foden's got years of it.
Going back to the early seventies I can remember Tony Towers, Derek Jefferies and Big Joe all getting loads of shit, all Local lads by the way, off City fans.

All of which are complete and utter nonsense, what actually happened was he was unfortunately involved in a rather nasty fishing accident and had to have his foot removed, he's been playing with a screwed on foot all season, which is why his performance hasn't been up to his usual standing
TBF he does look like Kevin Websters Son

I'm sure the club are giving Foden as much support as possible and it sounds like he needs a complete break from football. Phil should n't be coming back until his mental health issues are resolved however long it takes.

I heard it was both feet.

Sad to hear about his off-field struggles, but it's been clear that something hasn't been right with him this season. Just hope that he can get whatever help he needs and can regain his form from last season. Goes to show that you never know what is going on privately, and that players should be cut more slack when struggling on the pitch. Some of the vitriol in player threads when they lose form is pretty grim.

This.

Yeah, as someone who's gone through IBS/IBD-adjacent issues in the past, the mental effect it has on you is extreme. And I can understand why Phil isn't mentioning that specifically. But passages like this - "It's been a frustrating season for me. I've had a lot of things going on off the pitch mentally" - and this - "Sometimes there's things in life that are bigger than football. This season I've struggled a little bit."- imply that it's definitely been beating him at stages.
I’ll second that.
