The Squad planning thread

Besides Rodri, Haaland, Gvardiol and maybe Dias, no one is safe.
They’re safe to the extent that they have contracts. We can’t just force them out. And some of them such as such as Stones and Ake will have to prove their fitness before other clubs, that they would be prepared to join, will take a chance on them. Others such as Grealish and Nunes won’t be given away.

We’re fortunate in that there’s a World Cup looming which will influence those players that need game time to make their national squads. But it still will not be easy to offload players. And Pep will not be happy adding to the squad until players have left

I think we need to get squad numbers down before we add a few. That splurge in January has really bloated the squad to an unmanageable number. Still Walker and Phillip's to come back as well.
The players who I can see leaving are Ederson, Stones, Phillip's, Walker, Grealish, Mcatee, some loans as well like Reis, Khusanov possibly season long ones
Pep will blow a gasket if both Reis and Khusanov are loaned out. As it would mean that we hadn’t been able to offload Stones and Ake and will still be prone to the injury problems that derailed this season

We need at least one worldie signing dont we to show we many business? Rodrygo would be a huge boost?
i dont think so no, id rather have four or 5 top quality, young hungry players than one worldie signing, lets be honest we have a balon d'or winner coming back into the side after a season out which will feel like a new signing all by itself.

Yeah i get that to a point mate, just feel its important at times to hit the market with a big name signing, especially after the season we have had? We arent getting Wirtz so surely have the cash to do Rodrygo?

why tho, does it benefit the team or is it to appease social media?

I get what you mean but I'd rather we fill the squad needs with hungry players who raise the overall floor and challenge any possible complacency, than make a splashy statement.

Not overly fussed about Rodrygo. His stats aren’t much better than Doku’s and he’s playing in arguably a weaker league.

I also think he would thrive in a more down to earth team? Not the ego`s of the galacticos?

I think we should avoid Brazilians too tbh, Fern was an exception in terms of commirment to a club. BG & Rodrygo are good players but we can do better.
how can we do better?

Only brazilians players we should have avoided is Robinho, Jo and Maicon

We had some good brazilian players - Elano, Jesus, Ederson, Fernandinho and Savio is coming along nicely

Next season we are OK up front with Erling & Marmoush, also wide with Doku, Jack & Sav and in attacking midfeld with Foden, Bernie and Gundo (+Echeverri) . The Palace lad for one would strengthen the 8 position the Bournemouth fb or similar is another necessity..

Jack is toast surely?!
