I don't see it that way. I think the differential you see is because full backs are often the worst players on most teams. So a very good one ,(who often didn't start as a full back in his career) looks exponentially better.

If you yake 2 average teams and give one the best left back in the world and give the other team the best Center back in the world. I think on average the team that got the best Center back in the world will improve more.

You can go down the line from Keeper to striker and at every position, the team is better with the best at every other position than they are with the best fullback.

I mean, that's a hypothetical and we could never prove it as fact, but i think most will intuitively agree with it.

Fullback is the easiest position to hide weakness. If you are to choose a starting position to NOT have a WC player in, fullback would be 1st choice every time..

Would we be only going for him because he’s homegrown? He’s had injury issues just feels weird that Pep wants players that can be available and then we sign a right back that’s got injury issues

Pep isn’t buying though is he? Another deal that just won’t happen and I hope we don’t fuck around waiting to make it happen and waste time

Depends on your tactics. If you want your fullbacks to be offensive I.e Liverpool under Klopp they need to be top class. Look at Dumfries for inter. He their worst player? Arsenal invincible had great fullbacks. Why is it an easy position to play? You have to be switched on to offense and defensive side of the game. A CB doesn’t do a lot offensively bar set pieces.

If the present football climate is of fullbacks that are that, full backs that can defend and play wing backoccasionally then Pep sadly has to adapt and live with it.

He always has said every season he is still learning, well learn to accept not everyone can be inverted or play mutiple roles
 
I've always said we buy the best HG talent available and if it's possible to get this lad then you get him. He's a starter for us.
