Club World Cup - Summer 2025

Does anyone know how many players are allowed in the squads for this one?

I wonder how the club are going to approach it. With the financial reward you'd expect we want to win it. But I can't see how we can then rest players and get them back up to speed again for the new season. From January we've been the best team in the league. We're not a million miles away from a title challenge, but it will rely on us keeping everyone fit and this doesn't seem to align with that goal!

Apparently Ronaldo in talks with Infantino/FIFA about playing for a team in this tournament. Absolute joke. Can’t take this seriously.

Sounds like your own interpretation of the story.

The real story is that Ronaldo can play in the competition if a club playing in it sign him - just as any other player can.

It's staggering to me that some posters thing we're not going to go full strength in this competition.

Whether you think this is a joke of a competition or not, the potential revenue is up to $125m (which is more than the Champions League winner receives).

Pep will be under huge pressure to deliver (at least getting to the quarter-finals) here.

Exactly. We need serious work on our team. This will be like pre season for us as well. Ffs this isn't a mickey mouse cup. Our owners want to win it and stay in it. I'd rather play in this than some shite friendlies
The only people not taking this tournament seriously are the English press and a small section of our fanbase. Real Madrid, inter, PSG, Boca, Juventus, Bayern are all taking it seriously as are the world’s media. The UK press has always been backward when it comes to progress. They mocked the World Cup and the European Cup in their early days. It’s all part of this arrogant British exceptionalism cult. Not everyone is fixated on the past.

Lots of our players like Rodri, Bobb, Akanji, Ake, Haaland, and the young ones need game time. It could help our pre season. Pep is a cunning old fox. He will be well up for it. If only to stop Real Madrid winning it.

There was a probably a time in the beginning when the world cup or first proper european cup weren't considered 'proper' or 'real' trophies. These competitions grew and developed over the years into what we have today. No doubt the club world cup can grow and develop in the same way, so it's historic that we're part of it and it'll be even bigger if we can go deep into the tournament.

Imagine the media here if we win the bastard thing?! It wouldn’t even make the back pages the bitter cunts. Winning this would do so much for this club.

They would be all over it if LFC and MUFC had qualified for it.
Don’t we all know it. I agree with a lot of posters saying we should be giving the likes of Khusanov and Echeverri a proper chance and I think the group stage games will allow that. But Pep will be under pressure to go far in the tournament and he doesn’t like taking chances against weaker opponents, so I’d probably expect a full strength team. If we sign Ait Nouri and Reijnders before it starts we’ve got fresh faces to look forward to seeing. The proper return of Rodri and Bobb, what’s not to like?

It is only once every four years. Both us and Chelsea had to win the CL to qualify. They can mock as much as they want but this tournament will be a success. Better than England v Andorra and Senegal for starters.

Plus the exposure and prestige in parts of the world that City and the Premier League may not reach.

We will have players returning from injury and younger players with limited game time so City should be fresher than most teams and stand a good chance of going far. It is a chance of a trophy that no other side has won, generating huge sums of money with the potential tag of being World Club Champions that will carry a lot of weight now and in the future, whatever some may think.

And a chance for revenge against Real Madrid.

A couple of weeks off then to America. Probably have 10 days off after it as well. Oh they are hard done by.
Even if we reached the final the players could have 3 weeks off and then 2 weeks prep for the season, 4 weeks off if we go out in the QF.

Providing they avoid Walker & Jack that should be ample time off.

Pep will probably rotate with guys who have not been given game time a chance to show what they can do.

Its manageable and much better than last seasons pissing about in the US a week before the CS at Wembley.
