Juanma Lillo | Leaving the club before the CWC (p52)

How about Zabaleta as assistant, and Fernandinho as coach?

I would think last season’s tendency to collapse in the second half of games would soon change if those two were back at the club.
Would take one or the other but both no,
as I would personally like to see a non City face in the assistants role Xavi would be great style of football
repect speak good English and might be a good Pep succession planning

That's not quite true though. One is leaving for a managerial position (which is quite understandable) and we aren't renewing the contracts of the other 2.
Lilo didn’t want to renew it was Pep who persuaded him to come back and it was expected Pep was going at the end of this season

The quote I saw was:

Lillo did not have his #ManCity contract renewed, which expired at the end of the season, while the same decision was made on technical coach Dominguez. Vicens is due to become SC Braga’s new manager.

so whilst respecting your opinion. Everything you have said, is also a made up narrative other than believing what is written in MP’s book.
The fact is we will never know how influential he was or not. Frankly, I don’t really care either way.
I'm not suggesting he was all that influential, he may very well be crap at his job, we dont know either way.

The fact pep has had him twice is an indication he values him for one reason or another and thats good enough for me not to shit on him.

He wasn’t going to stay he only came back on the assumption that Pep was leaving it was Pep who wanted him back

Quite a few of the first team back room staff have left as well. Looks like it’s out with the old and in with the new, pretty much across the board.

He would speak enough English to communicate football terms and ideas wasn’t it Sterling who praised him
We have no idea how good he was and what his contribution was but do you think Pep want a lackey to walk over has been said in his book Marti Perarnu said that Pep and Lilo would have disagreements that would be quite heated so, from that insider knowledge we should assume that he was at the very least a good sounding board for Pep
I don't know much about Lilo as I am saving the Marti Pernau book Pep Revolution as my summer read after cwc.

One bit I did notice as I flicked through ( before putting safely away) was that after the night of the 1-1 draw v WBA Dec 2020, when Ruby scored ab oG and it was 1-1,there was a post match meeting with Pep and his assistants. Lilo said we would win the league in 21. At the time we were dross, ( by our standards) and all the usual media fanboyz were predicting Dips or the Rags.

So he had something about him.

Also swear on my offsprings life, I was listening to commentary that night packing up stuff as we were moving to a new house ( like you did in Covid!) and even though we were way off, I texted my friend post match and said that even though it was completely irrational I had a feeling that we would win the PL.

Me and Lilo were right, however I don't want the job!!

Close enough why?
Just wondered as I go to the match and can honestly say never really noticed what an assistant manager was doing on the bench - apart maybe from Malcolm Allison
