Morgan Gibbs-White

Pep and the club wanted Phillips.

They don’t get everything right every time.

Yep. Agree.

This is why I'm worried about the MGW signing. He would be coming here with absolutely zero pedigree.

At least Phillips played in the Euros, starred in this competition and played in a European international final.

Gibbs White has never played on the top level before. The lights might be far too bright for him here.

I think he'd be fine. He's not a superstar at present but may become an important cog in the machine.

We're probably going to need at least a couple of HG players anyway, unless we go with a very small squad.

there are a few more tbh
Maybe a couple but they are debatable even Nunes is entering the debatable. If we went back there would be lots of posts against most players that became mainstays of the team, bet we could find some against KDB or Aguero if we looked.Phillips is ine of the few undebatable
The point is we all have opinions but need self awareness to trust the club that get it right far more than not.Certainly far more than any of us.

He's coming here with zero pedigree in the same sense that John Stones came with zero pedigree. Or Ake. Or Alvarez. Or Marmoush.

Just because they're not a 'big name' doesn't mean they're a shit player.

I rate MGW and would like to see City sign him, but a part of me doesn't want him to come because the legions of johnny come latelys we have acquired will absolutely slaughter him if he misses a pass. I'm a bit disgusted with how some of our "supporters" are turning their nose down at him because they wanted a foreign big name.

No he's not. He's filled in at RB for the second half of the season. He's given foul throws away, misplaced passes, basic stuff. He's been okay and done a job - he's not been one of our best players
Out of curiosity who’s been better than him this season and Renember he’s been playing out of position.

Gvardiol but that's it.

It'd be Gvardiol then Nunes for POTY for me.

I'm amazed that some fans don't see what he's contributed this season, have we forgotten how shit Walker had gone? If Nunes hadn't come in and been good (/OK if we compromise) then we'd have been truly fucked.

Let's not forget, since Walker left, we've been top of the form table and that's also coincided with Nunes coming in at right back.

You're beginning to sound a bit like Nigel Farage.
People generally base a player on their ability.
Firstly, shut up mate.

Secondly, based on ability he is an upgrade on all of our midfielders bar Rodri. He's played well in a decent Forest side who were 3rd most of the season and was their stand out player vs us at Wembley.

Is anybody really doing that? Most criticisms I've seen revolve around him not suiting a possession-based system and him not being quite good enough for the step up.

Both of those are fair criticisms.

I'm free to comment but I'll just make this final reply to you.
I never mentioned how good or bad he was.
You have mentioned that people are not interested in him because he is not a foreign big name.
Every City supporter wants the best players.
If Pep signs Gibbs White or Cherki or whoever, I'll be happy enough with that.
I have great hopes for Bobb and Reiss, hardly exotic names.

I believe you could say that about the vast majority of players we are linked with. Most sides don't set up like us and don't face the low block most weeks.

From what I can see, many have unfairly made up their minds on him already, who's to say he doesn't learn under Pep and develop into a player suited to our style? One of the major things we were lacking this season is legs in midfield and the ability to win the ball back quickly when we lose possession. Having watched him a good few times this season, I think he could offer this to City.

I understand there are reservations based on the likes of Phillips and Nunes but I reckon Gibbs-White is different to both - More athletic that Phillips and more experienced and technical than Nunes.
