Morgan Gibbs-White

I believe you could say that about the vast majority of players we are linked with. Most sides don't set up like us and don't face the low block most weeks.

From what I can see, many have unfairly made up their minds on him already, who's to say he doesn't learn under Pep and develop into a player suited to our style? One of the major things we were lacking this season is legs in midfield and the ability to win the ball back quickly when we lose possession. Having watched him a good few times this season, I think he could offer this to City.

I understand there are reservations based on the likes of Phillips and Nunes but I reckon Gibbs-White is different to both - More athletic that Phillips and more experienced and technical than Nunes.
I guess, the purpose of the pre-transfer player pages is to offer an opinion. I don't think that's "unfair". I'm not even sure what that means. If people don't think he's good enough then they say so, and vice versa.

He'll give us legs for sure, will he give us anything else? I personally don't think so but every city fan hopes so if we sign him.

These pages are fun as we all play scout for a day! Sometimes we're right, sometimes we're wrong. It's nothing really to get snippy about. (not aimed at you btw...just in general).

I agree with what you are saying here. The reason it seems unfair to me is that he’s had a good season for a team that narrowly missed out on CL qualification. It seems that some had their heart set on Wirtz, and are knocking City for not being able to bring him in and looking at MGW instead. My point being, let’s give him a chance, that’s all.

What? Are you of the opinion that i got that wrong?

He started for City and went on to start for Arsenal. 2 top teams. He is the 10th most expensive left back sold of all time.

You make it sound like he went on to obscurity in the Championship. He became the very thing i claimed he'd become. A fantastic inverted left back in a possession based team. He isn't getting a game at Arsenal now because a better version of himself ( i.e a more athletic technical midfielder who switched to left back to get playing time) took his spot.

He is the prototype to the Skelly and O'Reilly's of the world.

In fairness, he was 2.0. Delph was the original prototype. And i called that one too before we signed him. You can check the archives :)
He was and still is a defensive liability. Lewis-Skelly only played 15 minutes of PL football in the first 15 or 16 games this season, where was Zinchenko then? On the bench as 3rd or 4th choice because even arteta had sussed out he's nowhere near good enough. He's played 90 minutes once all season, some return for the 10th most expensive LB of all time :)

Fair enough

I'll PM you my response. Don't wanna derail this thread .

I know I'm in a massive minority here but I'd be gutted if we didn't sign him. I think the good parts of his game (energy, pressing, willingness to go forward, carrying the ball and passing) would be brilliant with us and compliment the other midfielders so much.

If it's between him and Cherki then the latter makes more sense given (potentially) higher ceiling and cost but I refuse to believe we've been seeing MGW and Cherki as similar profiles in the squad and it's simply boiling down to cost.

MGW would be an 8 - if you play him as a 10 then you get rid of his pressing and energy while he's in energy-saving mode holding hands with Haaland until we get the ball - like the role Kev did last season and I just can't see how that's what we've been after him for.

Looks like we are going for cherki as number 10 option.
With gibbs white having 2 years left on his deal and a couple of our older midfielders having a year left on their deals, makes sense to me to tell gibbs white to stay put for a year and if he does well again, we will come back for him next summer to replace bernardo/gundo and as he'll only have 1 year left on his deal, we should get him for a decent price.

gut feeling I think this will still and get done. Player going the other way on the table is gonna drag this out.

There's every chance his stock drops if he stays at forest. Juggling Europe, over performed this season, could find themselves bottom half or even in the relegation battle next season, and suddenly he may want a January exit and £40m is the price.

Of course it may go the other way, forest compete on all fronts, replicate this year's success, and he breaks into the England setup. But even then, does his price push much past £60m? We may actually see forest more willing to do a deal when they've had time to sit and think about it.

If we sign Cherki I suspect he’ll play mostly at RW drifting inside with a wingback on the overlap.

So I reckon MGW is still a goer, especially with Nunes, Grealish and McAtee linked the other way.

I expect nunes to stay to be honest. It depends on getting an actual RB.. if it’s Livramento this could go on until the last day of summer.

I haven't followed this thread or seen him play only against City.

He seems to have done well in a park the bus team, not sure how that works with us.

To me this seems abit under whelming

In City I trust so I guess we will see if City sign him.
