I suspect there is more than just a whiff of client journalism going on here. Stone is essentially giving them 'free' publicity. I just wonder what the BBC and Stone get in return. Obviously, Stone gets his summer jollies paid for, but what else. Why do the BBC do this for no other club?

Generally, online journalism is monitored for website hits, downloads and comments. The editors won't care what the content is, they just want customers so that they can sell content to advertisers. I used to think of the BBC as different to other commercial media but I am not sure that it is now. They do sell content.

The best response to Man Utd articles is to ignore it, otherwise Simon Stone etc will be commissioned to write more.
