Liam Delap

They are hardly poaching.
Palmer is the only youngster that went directly.
Delap, Lavia , Tosin and Sancho (possibly) all arrived from other clubs.
I'm surprised other clubs aren't following their example.
I read somewhere that 14 PL clubs had one of our ex players last season ( or possibly the season before)
I didn't say they were poaching directly from us, I said they're poaching all the players we let go early from other clubs.
I'm not sure it could be categorised as the best decision, perhaps more so the least worst.

They've spent an absolute fortune on average players, and the only decent player they've got came from City.

Lavia has been injured for a lot of the season, but has hardly been stand out when he has played.

Palmer has been a great signing for them, but I doubt anyone would argue that he's not a top player.

Palmer aside, I don't think any of their other ex-City players would even get on our bench, and I'd include Delap in that; I personally think he's a run of the mill English striker, that'll probably get them 15 premier league goals.
Lavia is a cracking player, a fit Lavia would have been a perfect Rodri backup for us. hes played fairly well for them when he's been fit he's just had a John stones level of injuries. His talent cant be denied but he has to be available more often to justify his cost.

I personally think Delap is better than what you are saying but I can accept that opinion as fair as there's not enough evidence to accurately rate him yet. Even if he is a run of thr mill premier league striker though, they're in very short supply nowadays and lots of teams want and need them which makes him very appealing to many. A 15 goal striker is a dream for most teams and would make a huge difference, there's only 6 players who netted more goals this past season.

15 Premier League goals wouldn't be bad. And you have to also remember that they want someone to play instead of Nicolas Jackson, who misses tons of chances for them. Getting an upgrade for £30m will be good business.

Poor handing with this one. Delap is already one of the prems top strikers. Probably 3rd behind Haaland and Isak. Said it before we sold him that in a year or 2 he'd be commanding a 50m fee. If he was playing in Italy and not English people would be more excited. Superstar in the making. Ruthless striker.

Fantastic business by Chelsea here acquiring his signature for the small buyout fee.
Top 3 strikers on the prem?? What are you smoking mate?

Ipswich bought Delap off us for £20m with a 30% sell-on clause. Chelsea are buying him for £30m, so we get £9m from the clause and then the player Ipswich want to replace him with is Mubama for £10m, who we signed on a free.

So the original Delap sale effectively netted us £39m! Not bad at all for someone that played 2 games for us.

We get £3m, not £9m

I thought we paid West Ham £1.1m for Mubama

£23m

anyone with a calculator, or, who is good at maths confirm how much we will recoup from the Delap and Mubama sale?
Sold Delap for £20m
Possible sale to Chelsea £30m.
We get 30% of the difference ie £3m
Total Delap £23m profit.

West Ham received a £2 million compensation fee as part of Mubama's move.
If Mubama is sold for £ 10m ( not confirmed) then we get £8m profit on him.

Delap was sold for an initial £15m rising to 20. To my knowledge it has never been disclosed what the clauses were to get 15 to 20. Difficult to imagine they were met with ipswich immediately being relegated.

I'd say you're right.
If it was nearer to £15 m instead of the £20m we will still get 30% of that difference. Get 1.5m of that 5m differential.
He's a big loss to Ipswich either way.

Not sure ipswich will see it that way. He wasn't with them in the championship last time and won't be this time. They probably accepted he was only ever going to stick around if they stayed up and knew they'd make money on him regardless so it was always a win-win deal for them. Without him, they would have been worse than Southampton.

Can’t keep them all especially when you have erling for 10.

We as fans need to get used to seeing the academy players moving on. Some won’t be good enough for city but good enough for the majority of premier league teams. Some will go out of frustration and some will go due to bad timing like palmer.

All we can do is make the decision based on the needs of the team at that time. Khaldoon was saying txiki has recouped 1 billion. Goldmine, reputation will only get better with players like Delap moving to clubs like Chelsea.

so how much money Ipswich made on him? not much...
they bought him for 15+5 where the bonus may not activated or just some of based on his goals vs relegation.
now sold him for 30m of which City getting 30%=9m.
so they keep 6m plus whatever they didnt pay of the 5m bonus, total of 8-9m maybe.

Delap agent was clever to include such a low relegation clause sell fee of 30m in today market.
