This is bound to end up at the supreme Court.

However in the interim most people have lost track of where Trump's tarifs are at. He changes his mind like the weather. This just adds to the uncertainty and sense of chaos.

It is the worst of all worlds. All the negativity and price uncertainty will drag on the economy and prices will rise. But no incentive to invest in US manufacturing as there is no certainty.

I thought it was about whether the President has the right to put a tarrif in place without it going to Congress. If the republicans control the Congress then they'd still get passed.

Maybe Trump doesn't trust that his lot in congress will do anything he says?

He wouldn't have had his grandiose speech if it went through Congress, and would take a while - even if all Republicans voted for it.
 
I calculate (ie guess) that there are enough Republicans whose regions would be harmed by tariffs and who also face re-election in the mid terms to cross the aisle. Were they to vote in favour of the tariffs, they would be thrown out by the electors.

Was reading a recent Phillip O’Brian substack who quoted a senior Republican saying Trump has reversed the Teddy Roosevelt doctrine of speak softly and carry a big stick. Trump shouts loudly and carries a tiny stick. I gather Stormy Daniels can testify to the accuracy of this from her intimate knowledge of the moron.
