Rayan Cherki

Seemed pretty obvious that Wirtz had told us no, regardless of whether he picked Bayern or Liverpool.

We would have gone into that deal fully aware of how much it would all cost, so you can understand why people aren't believing the brief that the package was too expensive.
I thought that and probably still do we were obviously trying for him, but the more I look at Cherki and 3 weeks ago I hardly knew anything about him, the more he seems to me like much more a Pep player in the way players like Silva ,Inesta, Messi were, than Wirtz does. Not saying he's as good as those 3 , not yet anyway but his playing style slowing down drawing players in and accelerating or passing into space.. Especially in tandem with Reijnders. So maybe he was always preferred, who really knows.

I’d say Wirtz is more of a Pep player. Cherki is more of a maverick than the first 2 you mentioned and Wirtz. Messi isn’t worth comparing to anyone as he’s just simply levels above. Very excited to watch Cherki though, assuming we get it over the line

Lots on her have varying opinions, would be sterile without debate if we all agreed, pal.

Oh, and I can be sarcastic when I want to be, but I usually end with a winky emoji when I have been; )
That is true, im just surprised we are talking because the internet wasnt around in the 70s and 80s and apparently that when everything was best ;)

Only option we had was to air our views was write to the old Football Pink other than discuss with blues in pubs post games. I didn't ever write to the FP but I remember reading the ramblings of the infamous and perennial disgruntled Ted Knott winding fellow blues up. Some things were better back then. No Facebook, Twitter-X, and no cut n' paste tosser on the Internet plagiarising shite.

cant disagree with you there tbf

Matches up to what I was told at the weekend.

The clubs had agreed a fee over the weekend. Judging by the Romano tweet that’s been posted here.

The clubs did engage over the weekend. And the official bid will be submitted ‘in hours’ the official bid will match what was agreed over the weekend.

Closer to 40 million euros then the 30 reported.

Have you heard anything about Rodrygo ?

I think it’s because if it had been down to purely money, City would not have walked away. He was our top target.
For me us withdrawing is a clear sign that he has already told us he wants to play for Liverpool.
Why not when we can get Cherki for a fraction of the price? He was only our top target until he wasn't.

That's a more clear sign that it was us who walked away.

I believe the club in these situations. We have walked away from many transfers.

Wouldn’t it be funny if he ends up at Bayern and we sign Cherki.
Following the Red Sox this is classic FSG behaviour - we saw it when they said they had a bid accepted for the midfield lad who went to Chelsea (Caciedo I seem to recall). They are showing the fans and media "look at us dinning at the big table" but quite often these sort of deals don't happen. It's all about keeping a ravenous fanbase happy. The Red Sox have played like this for a few years and only once have dug deep into their pockets to get Crochet (Ace pitcher) and so far this year they are a disaster because they have man other needs not addressed.

If they do get Wirtz it will mean they are paying far too much - Wirtz and his team hold all the cards because he can demand stupid wages - rumoured to be in excess of 18million per year. If Liverpool fail to get it over the line he can lower his demands and probably sign for Bayern either now or in 12 months. We all know that they like us are a team with plenty of aging players - Van Dyke, Salah etc and need a refresh. They spent already on Frimpong and Kerkez so I'm not saying they are not doing something but in the past they would be all over players like Cherki before we sat in front of him. The Hungarian midfielder they got proved that - cheaper, quietly done and has been a top buy - so I'm glad them winning the PL seems to be going to their heads.

I'm actually not bothered if Wirtz goes there - you can put all your eggs in one attacking option and are an injury away from problems. But I do agree it would be hilarious if they don't land their big fish.

Funny how it all works out. Was reading some posts on the socials yesterday about how Mbuemo is rejecting CL football with Newcastle and Arsenal in favour of United - and it’s all down to money.

Tables turned years ago, but it always brings a smile to my face seeing reports like that.
Mbuemo is allegedly being offered a 5 fold increase in his salary by the Rags - who are without European Football and are a billion in debt. PSR is really doing its job ?
