In this day and age though it’s why players get stuck at clubs and can’t progress at better teams as they end up staying where they are and stagnating? I’m not saying peanuts for English players, just a capped release clause or some way of not making technically worse players more expensive than foreign ones even though they are worse players?
 
I think the Wesley option is always a backup, obviously with him being complemented by a homegrown player. Maybe Eze rather than Gibbs-White? I don't know.

I'm not the only one who thinks this, but either the average player's skill set has improved, or the elite players' skill sets are closer to those of average players. What I mean is that the market doesn't have a huge number of stand-out and attainable players.
 
England could easily field a team of right backs at international level and we cant find one suitable one. Very annoying.

Could we bring in a homegrown second choice, bin ortega and free up a spot for non homegrown right back?
 
I think ortega will go back to Germany be no1 somewhere with a world cup next year. Know I'm gonna get some shit for this but I'd keep nunes at rb he's quick an attacking threat and his defending has improved pep has said he's been happy with his performances lately .Now I know what pep says and what pep thinks are 2 different things but if we can't get the player we want I'd leave it as it is better the devil you know

If Ait Nouri is total fee 40m EUROS as a 24y old promising established PL fullback with 1+1y contract left surely a 28y old Aina 1y contract left cant be that much..
So thats like Rayan 33m pounds total fee with add-ons, prob like 28m£ initial fee.

That's the price to pay unfortunately for being the top club, can't have it both ways

But making domestic players cheaper by association would 100% be bad for the league....good for us but bad for the league

it’s the 2nd. Don’t wanna start this but someone like Vinicius is considered a top 2 LW. I believe that wouldn’t be the case in let’s say 2015. not even top 7 honestly.

The bigger question is why the richest league in the world, the home of football, the land of huge clubs with massive academy investment, is still not producing more than a couple of dozen players that are technically good enough to start for the top teams

Hmm I wonder how there‘s apparently no talent in the championship. Do we even look for players in that league? There should be a bargain Player who could make it if given the chance.
Also the cap would kill smaller clubs.

That is certainly part of it. Even the poorest Premier League clubs can afford to sign players from across the world

I just look at the conveyor belt of talent in France especially and we seem to be miles off producing the volume of talent that they are right now. But it could just be that they're all languishing in elite clubs' reserve teams or going on unproductive loans to clogger Championship sides

I think Ligue 1 clubs have to give their youth players a chance. Not just to make money but because they just don’t have the same amount of money as PL clubs. Top clubs in the PL can easily buy players for 100M if something doesn’t work while ligue 1 teams can’t.

Now when you look at our club. We are going to be stacked EVERYWHERE. The moment Livramento and possibly MGW joins there is 0% change that a youth player can make it. We’ve already found our CB replacements for Akanji, Stones and Ake in Bah, Khusanov and Reis. I honestly don’t see any talent coming through without giving up a set of players.

How much to pry him from Chelsea though? Pulling players from big clubs is always difficult. Maybe less so with them because of how many options they have, but still.

Wonderful question
1. Pep doesn’t rate the kids unless their Foden level or somehow gets attached to them like Rico
2. The academy is a cash cow - it’s makes the books look good.
3. I’m sure there’s decent players there but we’ll never know
 
The fact that O’Reilly might barely get game time next season despite his display of games says it all. Neves or Doue would’ve never started for us.
