Kes

The caning scene was fantastic, and summed up my education through Junior School and then Grammar School through the 1960's and into the early 1970's.

It was real as well, the tears were real, the actors were paid extra money to be caned.

Kes is one of my favourite films of all time its a classic and why the fcuk are they making a remake.
The boys were told they wouldn’t be hit but filmed from behind pretending to be hit.
At the last minute the head was told “cane them”. Even the little kid who was there to bring a note from another teacher. The head was told just to ignore everything the little kid said and whack him too.
He was the only one to be hit once.

The grittyness of the times will have been cancelled.
Immediately looking at that shot, it's so polished and well lit. Far too beautiful for the tone of the film.

It's the problem with a lot of filmmakers nowadays. They want every shot to be beautiful without any consideration for the story they're telling. Some of the best films have deliberately shit lighting, for example.

It's because it's not real, it's ai. This isn't a real film, I think mad eyed has gone on a fishing expedition and caught a few.

The original is all about atmosphere (60s Newcastle) and the remake has none of that.
The original book, on which Get Carter was based, is set in Doncaster.
Apparently, the director said Doncaster was too small and unknown to make the film.
Thankfully, Newcastle city centre is relatively unchanged, so several locations (the Quayside) are still recognisable.
Michael Caine was great in the title role, but am still puzzled why Jack Carter had a cockney accent ?
The background music also helped make such a moody, atmospheric film...

No definitely not on a fishing trip, a friend sent it me so assumed it was real
The kestrel looks like CGI. I assumed it was because Hollywood didn't have kestrels or all the kestrels have turned gay and stopped flying because of stuff the government puts in our water and the COVID vaccine.

Loads of gay birds on Canal St, nothing special about that mate ;-)
