TV Series

Don't give any more away. I'm watching — starting tonight!

Not sure what you've watched and I guess it depends on what you look for in a TV show to spike your intrigue but, by far, the best written show (in the last maybe 10 years) has been 'Andor'.

It's a very British structure in the way the story is written and developed, in my mind.

Well, no mafia zombies, or otherwise undead members of the mob, please. As I've indicated.
If you look at what I've liked over the past few years — I can't really see any common denominator. The Leftovers, Man in the High Castle, Breaking Bad, The Expanse, His Dark Materials, Better Call Saul. Peaky Blinders further back. Likewise Westworld (first two seasons — that one fell off a cliff). Oh and Band of Brothers (which my son has in a boxed set) which was really quite impressive.

What's it on? If it's Netflix I don't have a subscription (and don't know the weird and wonderful ways of getting onto it). Don't have access to BBC iPlayer (even with VPN, which they've sussed out now — they know when you're not really where you say you are). It's a pity cos I sometimes see things I quite fancy.

Okay, we seem similar that our interest is well written TV shows, in the main.

'The Last of Us' is HBO in the States and Sky in the UK.

I would say the tier just below 'Andor' for writing would be 'Mindhunter' which was on Netflix (and if you can find it anywhere now, anyway) and 'Blackbird' on Apple+, (which is, shockingly, not getting a second series).

Well worth checking out if you haven't seen them.

First episode of The Last of Us watched. Not bad, not bad at all. Worth persisting with. Recurrent theme in many novels, films, tv series these days — apocalypse. The world is worried. Probably has good reason to be.

Shit in what way? I watched two episodes, like the feel of it and want to continue watching it, everybody so unlikable apart from the Syrian bloke.
Got really bored and just wanted them to get to the "fairly predictable' outcome.
Too much time spent on scenes moping about inside one area.(you'll see which bit I mean).

The Wire was very good. But for it to be a classic, it needs to be watched again. I never had that urge with it...unlike The Sopranos, Band of Brothers, Rome etc.

This is totally subjective. All of those you mentioned I eithered haven't watched because it didn't seem interesting or never got through them.

According to you, they can't be classics...

Just watched a series that was on Channel 5 last year. Detective series called Ellis. Absolute garbage. Someone else said previously that all Channel 5 dramas are crap. How correct.
The acting is so poor. The lead actress hasn't been in anything previously so I googled her. She calls herself an acting coach. Most wooden actress I have ever seen.
There is also a scene when the forensics team are combing the crime scene. In full outfits so as not to contaminate the scene. Then 2 police men just wander round with no protection.
It's so funny I had to carry on. At least it was only 3 episodes
