London bound Air India 787 Dreamliner crashes at Ahmedabad

I'm willing to almost bet a dollar that it's inadequate maintenance rather than pilot error or something like that. The RAT being deployed certainly points to as such..

I bet it's really stressful for pilots to have to trust planes that aren't being maintained properly just because the airlines want to save money and increase profits in any way possible.

Hope you're able to take a few days off before your next flight and best wishes!

Your survival chances are really good if you're not too close to the impact point or the fuel or the smoke. Well that and luck I suppose.

RIP to the victims.

There is no evidence that I’ve seen to suggest anywhere near conclusively that the RAT was out so I certainly wouldn’t take that as being fact.

Hearing that, and I know the counter can be that whilst I am in control of my car, I’m not in control of whoever decides to smash into me from whatever cause. I last flew 2016 and I hated every blood sucking minute of it. Was never an issue when I was younger.

Safe to say shoukd I ever have to fly again, 11a will be my seat
Statistically, you stand a much greater chance of being killed or seriously injured in a motor vehicle or by a motor vehicle than you do in a commercial airliner.

I totally understand though. I think deep down, most people who have a fear of flying probably know they are being irrational, but there is still that niggling doubt they just can't see past.

I think it’s the manner of dying rather than the odds.

Like I say, it never bothered me. Always wanted a day flight so I could see out the window. Around hitting 45 it just never appealed to me and when I did go on that hol in 2016 the anxiety I felt was horrendous. Luckily it was to Barca so not a long flight.

Have the resident Bluemoon Aircraft Investigators rocked up yet?

RIP to all those involved. A fucking shite way to go.

I'm a bit baffled why we need live reporting from Gatwick Airport, it might have been it's destination, but it won't be coming, and I shouldn't think there's anyone that doesn't know that.
Would not be surprised if these media parasites were secretly hoping that there may actually be people turning up to greet their loved ones, completely oblivious of the fact the aircraft had crashed.

When covid restrictions were in force and no one could fly anywhere, I found it frustrating that I couldn't visit family and friends in the far east.
However, when flying resumed I was very nervous the first time I flew again.
I had become used to a routine over the years and flying was second nature at that time (pre covid), but now it's become more, "my life in their hands" reality and I have to convince myself that all will be well.
Getting older has had an effect on my confidence, but I shall continue to confront my demons!

Has it been confirmed that the survivor was actually on the plane like he said. The plane was on fire how’s he walked away from that..
Can only assume he was at the part of the plane that ended up lodged in the building.

Seen a clip of him with his psssport and boarding pass. Sky were reluctant to confirm if he was genuine at the start, but have said he was on the flight now.

I don’t know how I’d feel if I was him. Out of over 300 deaths, he’s the only survivor and he’s lost a brother. Must be impossible to digest.

787 pilot here

Very, very sad to see. All sorts of theories floating around - many of them clearly total rubbish. Beware of talking heads on news channels presented as ‘experts’. Give such ‘experts’ as much caution as we give ‘experts’ talking about City. Hopefully they can recover the FDR (black box) and get some info out asap.

There was one on five live when I was driving home. Started by saying it was too soon to speculate and could be down to a number of reasons but then spent five minutes saying how the video looked like it was a pilot error in terms of lifting the flap instead of the landing gear and talking about the relative inexperience of the first officer.

He may well be right but I felt uncomfortable listening to it given his first statement.

I’m a daytime flyer. Just seems really unnatural at night, particularly over vast areas of Ocean. That Air France crash into the sea unnerved me.
