Priced out? | Club announce that matchday tickets being reduced by up to 43% (p93)

A lot of the complaints followed the villa game and iirc price of over £200 for a family of four (2 adults 2 kids). Any idea what the price would now be for this self same family? Is it affordable now?
Well….its cheaper.

Whether it’s affordable depends on the family and where you sit I guess.

I guess if Villa are cat B then it could be anything from £105 to £165!

It’s good news though and shows that protests can work if done properly. Well done to all groups concerned.

Flabbergasted by this. That's not just a gesture of good will, it's a genuine shift in philosophy. It's now wildly below what other clubs in the league charge, and I hope the rest of the league is pressured into something similar.

The club realised that aside from the glamour of European ties that attract global fans the demand just isn't there for bread and butter games at the prices they were charging. This is after one fairly mediocre season by our own high standards and a huge game for our champions league qualification at the time. Even the dimmest egghead who sets the prices must have realised alienating and pricing out the local fan base was a suicidal policy.

And of course the jealous ones are chipping in with the "they're only doing it to fill the Emptyhad" jibes as if they've thought of something totally original. Whereas in reality they long for an owner like Sheikh Mansour but they haven't got one or have any real hope of finding one.

To those tossers my message is this "Don't get bitter, get better owners and investors"

I’m might have missed it, but have they announced the date yet of the annual July wallet-draining day for all us Citizens?

Just the ‘middle of July’ at the moment.

They do also say that the ‘majority’ of tickets will not be released until closer to the respective match.

They do use the word ‘continuation’ of that policy though, which surprised me. I wouldn’t really know but just going off what I read on here I assumed that the majority all went on sale pre season.

You have to be 65 when the season starts for discount...i think, anyone know?
The Relevant Date...

It’s got to be connected to the North Stand expansion.

When the capacity was 48,000 the club said they had 35,000 season tickets, ie 73%.

If they want the same number of guaranteed bums on seats they’ll need

Of course it’s only a personal opinion, but my preference would be to go back to the days of a 100% rolling sales window which iirc was 4-6 weeks before every game, so you knew the tv kick off time situation in advance. I’m sure that would mean a higher % of people buying would actually go.

(On the down side I do realise that for say overseas supporters or those planning very long journeys, to know in July you have secured a ticket for weekend X or Y might help their planning too).

It’s a difficult one for the club I suppose.

In an ideal world they’d probably prefer to hold back all sales until a fixture is set in stone.

But with the result of cup games dictating that, often even cup games we’re not involved in, it’s not really practical.

No but what I also didn’t mention was it makes the cost of buying tickets much more affordable than shelling out £600 in one go for a pair of tickets for 6 games, which is what I’ve had to do on previous years (when/if I’ve been lucky enough to get through the online scrum in time!)

As such, even with the odd late cup change etc, it’s still a much more preferable system imho.

Apart from the bigger games though there have been ticket releases about 3 weeks before games this season gone, which made it easier than the last few years and with the extension after December should be more tickets available if the extension opens up. The panic to buy in July isn’t as crucial as it was, depending which games you want tickets for.
That said wish they’d go back to loyalty point windows.
This July though I’m only planning to try and get tickets for a couple of games and then see what comes up through the year when I know the fixture times and days.
