Club World Cup - Summer 2025

Bayern 10 - 0 Auckland pretty much sums up this competition!
The proper World Cup has had some big wins as well though so it will only be a problem if it becomes too regular a thing. However chances are it will because of the way club teams will be more used to playing together than international teams that change more often and only come together a month or so before the tournament.

It's a World Cup of the best clubs from global regions (strong and weak). In the last 16 it will get very competitive. I am enjoying it like a World Cup but I wonder what the effect will be on City in our domestic season. It could be good and bad. As a footballing spectacle it will be brilliant.

But it doesn't does it. Although Auckland are an amateur side they are in the competition on merit being the best side over the last 4 years from the Oceania confederation and FIFA insisted that all confederations be represented.

It's not their fault they came up against Bayern. It was always going to be a battering. They are also guaranteed a minimum of $4M which Auckland have said they are putting the majority of that into grass roots football in that region which can only be good for football in the future

Like putting someone who won a race at their school sports day in the olympics

The constant sneering from the British press and media at this competition is tiresome and reminiscent of the attitude of the haughty British towards the World Cup and European Cup when they were launched. But perhaps if any of the Red Shirt Cartel were involved it might be different?

Also constant claims by the same British media that no one is interested and that attendances would be poor is somewhat at odds with the impressive crowds for the opening games and TV audiences from the rest of the world.

It’s driven by a desire to have clubs from all over the world in it. There are bound to be minnows in the group games.

i'll watch our games and thats about it for me. Nothing against the competition as such, if we win again then fantastic, if we dont then i wont lose any sleep over it. im excited to see our new players though!

Told you all it was a joke competition

That's a premature generalisation. The knock-out stages will be good, especially from the quarters where the quality will match that of the CL.

Imagine the potential semis:

PSG vs Real
City vs Bayern.

Those would be mouth-watering games. The interest will go through the roof. I predict that, say, a Real vs City final will break viewing records for club competitions.
