North Stand Construction Discussion

Apparently we're getting new big screens. Hopefully there will be one at each end of the stadium like it used to be before the south stand extension. It seems a bit stupid having both at the same end... it's a bit awkward form my seat at least.

The lifting heam attached to the very ends of the roof beams seems to do three things.

It acts as a lifing beam, letting the crane use that to pull the whole bay down, rathet than pulling the beams directly.
It couples the bay together, effectively bracinng the ends together. But I also think it has a part to play in the load transfer, which is tightened back to the crane. Which then allows the beams to be disconnected from the existing cable ring, which still plays a part in holding the front of the beams up in addition to the props further back below it.

Video here.

Back along they would have used a wrecking ball. Any resulting craters on the pitch would have been dealt with over the next decade or two.

Seriously, this video shows the complexity of replacing the old roof with the new, and the bravery and skills of the construction workers! Good video again SS, hope Colin captures more progress later.

Fred Dibnah wouldn’t have used harnesses and safety nets ! lol is that bravery or just stupidness ???

I have done 3 major builds so far.
Anfield - good views but next to no interaction with fans, club constantly tried to ban us, didn’t bother attempting to join any forums.
Everton - less views but good interaction with the fans, the club and the builders.
Joined a forum but in general they support the local droners rather than an “outsider”
Etihad - great views, great interaction with fans and obviously this forum.
Zero interactions from the club or but also they leave us totally alone to do our thing, I did learn from the Sisk open event that they do watch the videos and I also know one contractor used my videos to see progress and know when they needed to get on with the next stage.

Who knows what the future will bring, elland road is starting next year and looks promising.
Circus tent in principle could be a game changer regarding views and earnings, I already have an agreement in place with one of the major United podcasters who are going to use and promote my footage.

Then JRB must of been mind reading, I have always said I will give up after the circus tent regardless of how well it does.
You and SS have put the meat on the bones for me.
When the South Stand was done it was at the other end of the ground and it was fascinating to watch it loom up and I then managed to blag a freebie the night of the test event.
The North Stand has just been a load of steel and such like.
Watching the coverage you have provided has been really interesting to see what has been actually going on overhead.

Bravo fellas.

This afternoons progress, 50 minutes long, probably should of time lapsed some more of it out but then i would of never got it released today!

Brilliant watching that. Pity we don’t see the actual lift of the roof like the first one which we never saw either.

Can only keep trying, like I said on the video it was far easier when you could see the lifts outside as it was a matter of just sitting and waiting for it to start. Now as it’s inside it’s pure guesswork to what stage they are at and how long it will take. I’m guessing that piece is down now, then dismantled tomorrow and then start dropping the next section on Wednesday. Well that’s what I’m hoping as I plan to spend a few hours there on Wednesday

Your dedication is appreciated. Thank you.

I saw some Everton fans saying they’d used the drone videos to work out where they wanted their season tickets to be

Just echoing what others have said, you’ve been brilliant. With some construction background before this, it’s been fascinating to watch the build take place

Everyone in construction knows the story of the Empire State. Up in 1 year 45 days, with very little in the way of safety. Thankfully things have come on a long way since then but the builds are quite a bit slower!

A lot of the steelworkers involved with the construction of skyscrapers in New York and Chicago and the Golden Gate bridge were native American Mohawks
