Club World Cup - Summer 2025

As for the British media saying nobody cares about it ?
Tell it to the 30000+ Boca fans in Miami!
I arrived in Miami today for family vacation. Didn't realize City were based in Boca Raton, 20 or so miles up the road. Saw a number of City shirts on South Beach this evening and lots of Boca fans packed into an outdoor beer garden to watch their match. Seems the tournament is off to a good start so far from an interest perspective here.

Can’t believe the game is tomorrow (still Monday here in Yanksville) after months of chatting about it.

Off to bed now, almost 10.30pm.
Very small travel bag packed, up at 3am, quick shower and hopefully a shit.

Leave 3.30am from Vermont to the mother in laws 12 miles from Boston centre to leave the Jeep.
5.50am train into Boston. Underground tram to the airport.
9.05am flight to Philadelphia baby!!!!!!

Without this tournament, I would never have heard of Auckland City FC, nor would I have known that a Chinese player was playing for this team. I'm glad the Chinese player did well. 10-0 is a brutal scoreline, and the Club World Cup has a lot to live up to in terms of fixtures, but this is indeed a rare opportunity for other teams and their fans outside of Europe.
UEFA is also going crazy with increasing the number of matches and burdening the players. Everyone needs balance.

Well I’m fucked if I ever do this again, eventually landed in New York after a 7 hour fuck about, taxi to Penn Station missed the train by 2 mins now sat on the floor of the station until 4am to get train to Philly to get in a full 12 hours after we should’ve done. Fuck British Airways, fuck FIFA and if City don’t win after all this fuck them.

Yes, there is a significant Argentine population in Miami. Greater Miami is home to one of the largest Argentine communities in the United States. Over 52,000 Argentines live in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach metropolitan area, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This community is so prominent that areas like North Beach, Doral, and Weston have large concentrations of Argentine residents. The arrival of soccer superstar Lionel Messi to Inter Miami has further highlighted and celebrated this strong connection between Miami and Argentina.

AFAIC, FIFA have got no business involving themselves in club football at all. The idea that Auckland getting dicked 10-0 is good for the wider game is bullshit. At best, it’s yet another tournament that’s going to destabilise domestic leagues by giving only one team a huge pay boost.

Seriously.

Why would FIFA put LAFC against Chelsea in Atalanta, 2000 miles away from LA, on a Monday at 3pm, when most of the locals in Atalanta are still at work?

There would have been a similar number of fans if they had played it in Atalanta (Bergamo) to be fair! Only holds around 25k.

As I pointed out out yesterday Auckland are there on merit, being the best team of the Oceania confederation for the last 4 years and FIFA insisted that all confederations are represented. In fact Auckland still would of been in the old format it's just that they are facing much better teams.

In regards to the money, Auckland are guaranteed a minimum of $4M and their owners have said they will be putting the majority of that money into grass roots football for that region

I am not especially in favour of this tournament, and we have a tendency to bring down anything new in the UK, but for us with so many new players: Reis, Marmoush, Khusanov, Gonzalez, Cherki, Reijnders, Ait-Nouri, and the loss of some real legends of the club, it could really be a blessing, allowing the group to come together and familiarise themselves with each other, building bonds on and off the pitch. I am enjoying the footage so far and looking foward to the first game. I also noticed that Nico O'Reilly looks huge. When he fills out he will be an absolute unit.

Chelsea and City probably have small numbers of travelling supporters out in the USA. The BBC seems desperate to convince everyone that there is apathy for the tournament when most likely the Chelsea crowd was low because it was played in the afternoon of a working day between sides that have not got a big travelling support. The Boca game later in the day had a much larger crowd with 10s of thousands of Boca fans.

All major sporting events are staggered across the day for TV.

Have they got anything going on at the stand on the beach?
I was there last week and they were building it. Said they had an event there on Saturday to commemorate the start of the tournament.

It’s not Auklands fault it’s that Australia & the wank A league was able to switch federations from Oceania to Asia.

So you wouldn't allow a side from Oceania then? No New Zealand at the World Cup of nations? We beat Leipzig 7-0 in the group stage of the CL.

Some of the South American and African sides might be strong. Benfica equalised in the last minute vs Boca.
