Tino Livramento

Yes! A highly talented, technical player, who's already World Class, in a key position ( Attacking Mid or Striker), and is still young like say Florian Wirtz, yes you will stump up the money.

But for a fullback, who isn't top 10 currently, and plays for a team who doesn't need to sell? And he is not angling to leave, then No. Trying to force it is what often results in bad decisions.

From his last season production, there's no guarantee he beats out Nunes this season. Who knows, maybe never or they become complimentary RBs.... Now is that worth 70-80 mil? I certainly think not.
I agree with all of this. City don't go above a certain valuation for a player. The deals for Nunes were more panic than anything because we didn't get Paqueta for that position. Think if Newcastle put an unrealistic valuation on Livramento we will most likely walk away and look at other targets, or ultimately just stick with what we have.

Not many quality right backs out there who would replace Walker.

What does he actually excel at?

i'd be curious to see, if they exist, stats to show Nunes improvement (or not) month on month.

the reason i'd like to see that is that he was learning the position.

you would expect gradual improvement as he gets used to a new role.

in other words was he a better right back in may compared to september ( although think he started there january )

We've never played with two full backs overlapping and getting crosses into the box.

Walker did that plenty. Although most of the time you could barely call it a cross ha.

Nunes was doing it and seemed pretty good at it

So I wouldn't say we don't do it, we seem to when the full back has enough pace to do it. Although I get your point, it's not a focal point a là Becks and Nev at Man U

That's my point, Nunes can do it but it's not the main feature of our playing style under Pep (I write off last season when it comes to how we played). I just can't see why we would spend so much on a fullback when his resale value isn't likely to increase, which makes it a risk, and Pep has proven that using midfielders/CBs and non-specialists in the role can be effective. Livramento might be better than the options we have, but it's very rare that a full back is the reason you go and win games. Walker might have kept Vinicius or Mbappe in his pocket, but it's up to others to go and get games won. I just don't see it as a position that justifies a huge outlay.

That’s it get the stats out and Fernandes will have had better seasons than David Silva. Just like David was worlds apart from rat boy Livramento is a far better right back than a midfielder doing a job in there for the team.
Care to answer the question then? In my limited viewings of him (v City mostly), he didn't look special, so I'm curious if any who watched him more can chime in.

Stats are hard to judge. What I say from Nunes was ....
1. he was fast and improved as a defender
2. he was tidy with the ball but was too conservative most of the time with sideways or back passing too much
3. he was very effective when he trusted himself to make runs into the box
4. he made some awful decisions
5. he recovered from making awful decisions

I'd be happy with him as our 1st choice RB. I'd be happier if he was 2nd choice RB so some awesome new RB can be signed from whatever country. I'd be disappointed if we sold Nunes in order to bring in a RB just because he is English.

Hardly seen him myself but know some Newcastle season ticket holders they rate him very highly, good on the ball, links up with midfield well, really intelligent reads the game and always back in position when posession is lost. In the words of the Geordies,'a pefect Pep defender, but we're keeping him'.

You can catch Livramento on tv tonight after the City CWC match.

Good post but i don't know if I'd be disappointed if we sold him to bring in an english right back, if it was a quality right back like Livramento, who I rate very highly.

This summer we have bought some very good players to improve positions where we are have become weak, mostly due to ageing players. Now that we've done that, it feels theres a gaping hole in RB position and the fact we don't have a real quality natural RB and looking towards a midfielder to hopefully make it work. We're in the hopeful stage with Nunes as a RB right now.

to put it simply, it feels like the RB position is the missing piece of the jigsaw now we've made other good signings.

I'd love a real quality RB, it would feel like the squad is more complete. Until then, it still feels like we're just using a makeshift right back.

Perfect description of Nunes's season.

I’d be devastated if he was our first choice anything next season, let alone RB.

I’d keep him around though. Decent squad member.
