Your favourite female singers.

I adore Annie Lennox singing There must be an Angel.

Fwiw I am a straight female but I think the young Annie was the most beautiful female face I've ever seen in my life. Total Perfection.

Doesn't mean I would have though!

Eivør Pálsdóttir has an amazing voice, part soprano, part rock, part folk with a bit of pop. Keep meaning to go to one of her gigs over here.

Also a big fan of Dolores O’Riordan and Sam Brown. Sadly Sam lost her voice but luckily there’s a decent few albums to listen to.

It took me many decades to realise it, but I now firmly believe that women are far more fascinated by female beauty than men are. It's not a gay/lesbian thing either — or not necessarily. Women absolutely scrutinise other women, mercilessly too. (Not everyone, obviously). A woman I went with for many years often pointed this out to me. She sometimes said that she was tired of being checked out by other women, and marked out of ten, as it were.
Agree with you about Annie, by the way. There are blue eyes, and blue eyes. Hers were simply luminous. And those high cheek bones!

Some that haven't had a mention as yet...

Shiina Ringo (my favourite Japanese female singer)
Margo Timmins (from Cowboy Junkies)
Anneke van Giersbergen (from The Gathering)
Skin (from Skunk Anansie)

Surprised no one has mentioned Skin from Skunk Anansie. She's a really good singer.
I did on page 4

She was indeed gorgeous.

Women in the main are bitchy, this business about the sisterhood imo is cobblers.

Today's females are all plastic lip filled Stepford wife lookalikes. Honestly if I was a young bloke how the feck do you choose anyone with any originality. At least when I was in my prime (late 70s-80s) every girl was individual.

Sandy Denny
Judith Durham
Francoise Hardy
Joan Baez
Carole King.

Ah! was checking back through this thread to see if she'd already been mentioned, should have known that you would put one of the purest voices — maybe the purest in English folk — at the top of your list. An all too brief shooting star.
Check out Liege and Lief, people. Even if you don't particularly like folk-rock. if you listen without prejudice, you will get something from it. And that voice…
(Mad as a box of frogs, apparently. Drank like a trooper, too).

And somebody who isn't anywhere here, I think, and should be: Billie Holliday.

Edit: sorry, @Saddleworth2 got there before me.

Re-edit: actually, quite a few mentions of Sandy in the thread.

We saw her at The Academy last year. Phenomenal voice and stage presence. She finished with Falling Free, oh goodness it was immense.

I love Billie Holliday's voice. Madeleine Peyroux's voice is the nearest I’ve ever heard to Billie's, and I love her too.

Judith Durham is another I love.

Sooooooo many, my top ten…

Diana Ross
Carly Simon
Kim Wilde (my teen crush)
Olivia Newton John
Dolly Parton
Jody Watley
Debbie Harry
Aretha Franklin
Patsy Cline
Linda Rondstat
