North Stand Construction Discussion

I have an acquaintance in the construction world, and said how brave or mad the guys who sit astride the beams 30m and more above the ground, trying to remove nuts and bolts etc. when deconstructing. He said the worst job is tying the netting to stop debris falling on workers below. The issue is working with flexible materials and tying reliable knots, at least with nuts and bolts they can concentrate on turning anti-clockwise. He said he much prefers construction as all the materials are new and precision-engineered, whereas older structures are sometimes victims of weathering despite all the anti-corrosive coatings.

When did they commence work on the hotel; a year ago, maybe? So, it'll be two and a half years to complete it.
It is a normal timescale for a quality hotel, especially given the concurrent construction of the stadium expansion and other facilities. You could probably knock up a Travelodge on a vacant site in less time though.

Give or take, yeah. It is a 401 bedroom hotel. That's a lot of fit out alone. On top of two storeys of restaurants/bars. Being built at the same time as a 9 storey office and an 8000 seater stand into an existing stadium. Sounds about right, in fairness.

I suppose the question is what customer base is it being built to accommodate. If it's primarily football fans, being built beside a football stadium, 99% of them would be more than happy with a Travelodge or a Premier Inn. But if they're targeting conferences, seminars, wedding receptions etc, I guess something more upmarket will be required. Which would have me wondering just how much they'll charge for a room on a match day. I'm guessing it'll be extortionate.

When I spoke to the Sisk chappy at the Open House day he said it wasn't too different from a normal resi block in terms of clash detection or anything like that.

In some ways I'd imagine this one could have been easier to construct in some ways than one at a City centre location, as it feels like site access would be easier. I agree with others that the 401 rooms and fitting them all out is probably the major obstacle, and Radisson will bring their own spec.
