Astonishing developments in AI

I see significant changes now in my working life.
Everyone uses AI for reports.
Coding and spreadsheets no longer need program SMEs to complete. Just tell AI what you want.

It's hollowing out the white collar trades at an increasing rate.

Eg: Translation services are being decimated.

It will only get worse.
The explosion of AI will have a bigger effect on white collar workers than the Industrial Revolution effected manual workers.

What will happen to the unemployed in the world. The government will not pay them to sit on their arses or play golf or go fishing till the day they die.

Ya.

You are going to get very angry sub sets of society who swallowed the "You must send kids to uni " crap hook line and sinker.

They will be saddled with debt for ever useless education.

The pen used to be mightier than the sword. This may reverse as a wierd consequence.

Not necessarily Grump...if you can't get a gig post qualfication that hits the salary level, then your debt remains unserviced...

'hands on' is the way forward
"A revolutionary new kind of politics – beyond work, scarcity and capitalism.

Fully Automated Luxury Communism promises a radically new left future for everyone. New technologies will liberate us from work, providing the opportunity to build a society beyond both capitalism and scarcity. Automation, rather than undermining an economy built on full employment, is instead the path to a world of liberty, luxury and happiness. Solar power will deliver the energy that we need, while asteroid mining will deliver the necessary resources, allowing us to end the devastation of our environment. Innovations in AI, gene editing, food technology will leads us to new ways of living better lives.

In his first book, radical political commentator Aaron Bastani conjures a new politics: a vision of a world of unimaginable hope, highlighting how we move to energy abundance, feed a world of nine billion, overcome work, transcend the limits of biology and build meaningful freedom for everyone. Rather than a final destination, such a society heralds the beginning of history"

My son in law has 190 employees till just recently. He laid off 9 he recons he could be down to 30 in 15 to 18 months

What industry is he in and how has AI taken the jobs if you dont mind me asking? The company I work for has been heavily invested in using AI to innovate since it has been publicly available and so far I can safely say it hasn't replaced anyone. There are a lot of things that have been improved, but all still driven by a person.

How soon before AI replaces parliamentarians? I mean surely the day will come when we will all be able to create our ideal MP (or self image) to represent our views in Government, they will be tailored precisely.

Quite frightening really isn't it?

Seriously I am genuinely worried about where this is going and where it will end up.

An earlier post said "we always have the off button", that may well be the case until the computers become much stronger and cleverer and remove that facility for the master.

It’s all on line

This is the world we could have if religion and politics (more often than not, two cheeks of the same arse) didn’t insist on getting involved.

It’s all on line
Yep.

The old line, “but we’ll invent new jobs”, doesn’t hold water when the AI and robots can do the new jobs as well. This is completely different from every industrial revolution that has ever come before. For the first time, we are developing a technology that will make ALL human endeavour worthless. It will take ALL jobs, unless legislation is put in place to stop it.

My son in law has a company with 190 employees he’s had to release some already.

I said if it was only decimation it would be bad enough in 18 months I think the 190 could be down to 15.

Just in the coop building and the CIS building how many they could lose and the rest of the offices in Manchester and GB wide. The redundancies don’t bare thinking about.
As you say the amount of people effected will be massive and I don’t know what the answer to it is.

Starmer is in for a nightmare as the shit hits the fan and he starts tightening up the benefit system.

Many, many years ago - like 40 years ago - I predicated this. I’ve posted about here donkeys years ago. In essence, democracy has had a good run but ultimately will need to be replaced.

When we have like 5% of the population unemployed and impoverished, we can keep the disgruntled minority under control. But when that minority becomes 10, 20, 30%, 40%, then it’s unsustainable. There will be rioting in the streets and society breaks down. The only solution is a better form of wealth distribution such that being without a job is a pleasant experience and only a few who want to work can fulfil the few jobs that exist. Capitalism doesn’t accommodate this - it concentrates wealth, it doesn’t redistribute it.

(I say this as a fervent right wing conservative).

Nobody excels in putting people out of work more than fervent right-wing Conservatives. Happily, they will soon be a thing of the past!

Your dream ideal MP would be a racist populist.

Nah, the brilliant Badenough will lead a revolution of the right…..or something.

I think if that did happen a lot of people would feel like they have no purpose.

I think a solution would be to roll back our use of ai, otherwise millions will end up unemployed

Is that the Industrial Revolution that created tens of thousands of new jobs and led to improved education, medicine, housing and social conditions?

Never going to happen, and yes, MANY millions are going to be unemployed. It’s inevitable I’m afraid.
