Al Ain (N) | CWC | Post Match Thread

Managed the first half and watched the second half highlights and although Al Ain weren't particular strong opponents we made sure that we weren't complacent and took full adantage. As mentioned Ait Nouri showed encouraging signs; Gundo is showing he could still fill in when required, Echeverri scored a superb free kick. Onto the toughest challenge vs Juventus.

You cannot use this match as a benchmark, but i finally got that "feel good" feeling we had 8 years ago.
Maybe seeing new eager players, with something different to offer is the reason.
Very early days, but i get the feeling some teams are really going to get beat up this season!

So Ait Nouri is going to be fucking brilliant for us, but we defo need a right back. Nunes doing his best, but we need a specialist. Don’t suppose AN has a twin who is a RB?
That would be NOURIshing.

It seemed to me that the desire to score 7 only really emerged after we had scored 5. We had obviously decided to play normally rather than chase 7 goals but once it became a possibility it gave the players a mini target at the end of the match. I don’t think the players were thinking about RM just that it would be nice to overtake Juve. And we did have some excellent chances at the end which partly explained why they looked pissed off at the final whistle.

I think Pep would like to avoid RM simply because it would give him an extra match to rotate players and experiment with systems. If we end up playing RM he’ll have to field a strong line up in two successive matches
It did look that way but gundo said afterwards they talked about chasing it at halftime they just settled into a standard rhythm of controlling the game and not really looking to score. I would like to see a return of the desire to score more goals when we are leading.

If we top the group and Madrid do too I dont think we'll be playing an experimental lineup like we've seen these last 2 games anyway. We saw the Saudi's gave Madrid a game and they'll be the likely opponents

When do we start worrying about Haaland missing these chances? Even his penalty - if the keeper had gone the correct way he'd have saved that with ease. Aït-Nouri put in a great cross and Haaland was stood on the edge of the area. It's worrying me a bit

Does he have that hunger after being given a contract for life basically?
If my Aunty had bollocks she would be my uncle . He waited till the keeper moved and put it in the other corner so he was never saving it.
Do you really think he has no motivation because of his contract ? As if Erl needs that security !

It was a question. I didn't state my opinion.

My opinion is that I'd like to see the treble version of Haaland and would like to play to his strengths. Equally, I'd like more from him off the ball

Watched it this morning without knowing the score. Accomplished performance against a League 1 standard team so difficult to make a judgment on where we’re at. Should definitely have had two or three more but it would be churlish to complain.

Looking forward to the Juve game and hopefully we can avoid Madrid in the next round.

I was impressed by the link up play between Haaland and Cherki. Pretty impressive considering Cherki just got here. Cherki seems have a high football IQ.

Exactly what I noticed on Cherki's goal (posted elsewhere). That understanding — that quickly — was impressive. I liked the fact that Cherki didn't make a big thing of it either (ok, it wasn't exactly PSG or Real Madrid). Just the look of a guy who's taking care of business. Early doors, but a good sign.

Well it was a stupid question . I would like to see him score 60 next season so we appear to be on the same page
