I think it is picking up, playing games during the working day over there can't have helped.

Been watching City since birth but I would rather go and view in the pub or some event than pay more than that. Read somewhere that peops go off to places like Benidorm for big events outside of football and have a great time for a fraction of the cost.

Maybe City could organise something at the ground ala Wigan play off if the beer prices were sorted.

It wouldn’t surprise me if FIFA reduce some ticket prices for the final, may be to +/- $250. It will depend on the level of interest in the teams in the final. If it’s City v one of the South American teams, then I do think it’ll be close to a sellout, due to income levels in NY and large South American contingent. Probably 50+% of the crowd being neutral and just wanting to see the game.

I agree, that’s my point. We fool ourselves into thinking that our opinions in the UK are replicated everywhere else. Without getting political I think, as a nation, we overestimate our importance.

We are so busy criticising a global competition that we haven’t noticed the damage being caused to our own league from endless and needless legislation.

I’m a fan of football, not just City, though it’s a huge bonus for me that we are in it. I’ve seen about 60% of the games and absolutely loved it so far…other than the players coming out one at a time. I often see people saying they aren’t going to watch because they have never heard of River Plate or whoever are playing…that makes me want to watch more…particularly as the standard is, for the most part, pretty good….not CL standard admittedly.

I would also bet that the people criticising it the most haven’t seen very much of it as they aren’t interested in the first place for whatever reason. That’s up to them but I’m not going to be told by the BBC that it’s rubbish, because they want it to fail, when I think I can make my own mind up.

From the Japanese fans tidying up the stadium after their matches to the madness of Boca fans and getting to see teams play each other for the first time ever it’s been like no other tournament.

As for the European teams “walking it” and then supposedly “not trying” when that didn’t turn out to be the case..I’d ask which is it? Every match I’ve seen it’s obvious how much the teams want to win including the European clubs.

No tournament is perfect, particularly the first time it’s been run, but I’m not having it’s been a disaster and will never happen again. It’s fake news! ;-)

Which is a real shame as, beyond the City games, it's been a great competition so far. There's a very good chance that Liverpool will be at the next one - I'd like to see how brave the media are in dismissing it then.

Im uk based, I'm bothered about it and I'm watching every City game with some others thrown in when work allows.

You’re never going to get a nation watching in numbers like you do for an international team World Cup, team support is too tribal. If we weren’t in it I’d be giving it a wide berth too, I wouldn’t want to watch my rival teams revelling in it and clocking up huge winnings.

You can bet they won’t want us or Chelsea to win it though, which is a form of recognising the competition for what it is.
 
The next round of games will increase interest in this tournament. There’s some good games on paper coming up. This should have been played in Europe or South America for its first go. There’s more appetite. I’m looking forward to watching the elite Brazilians go up against a good euro side. If there was a red shirt team from here we’d have Coca Cola and Pepsi giving free pop out sun hats and sweat bands in the sun comic. The buses would be painted with the competition logo and we’d all be collecting stickers for our panini sticker book.

The attendances haven’t been bad given that many of the matches have been played during the working day in hot conditions featuring clubs that are not that well known.

Part of the problem is that the stadia have been too big. And the reporting has focused on the empty seats. So for one of Chelsea’s matches the attendance was reported as “22,000 in a 71,000 seater stadium”

Just short of £40k is decent for an inaugural competition in a country which is preoccupied with other sports. And the average will go up as the tournament progresses

That explains why Murphy was never an elite player. His views are also tainted by the fact his beloved Liverpool failed to qualify. You can be absolutely certain that the truly elite players from Real Madrid, PSG, City, Bayern, Juve, Inter Milan, River Plate, and Palmeiras (and the rest) will be busting a gut to become the first proper World Champions. That's what sets them apart from people like Danny Murphy.

There's plenty of scepticism from the clubs which failed to failed to qualify. I have watched a lot of the matches and believe the quality so far has been much higher(and more entertaining) than most International matches. The broadcasters who didn't get the rights to show matches have also slagged it off. Just the usual vested interests.

If they haven't heard of River Plate they might be best just sticking to the theatre.
