Gareth Southgate knighted

Not sure hatred is applicable as far as Southgate is concerned, but absolute indifference to him and his management approach is far more appropriate imho.
If people were telling you that they wished the king had cut your head off with the sword, or that you were a clueless **** and fucking shit at your job, or that any work you'd done for grassroots football and charity was akin to that of Jimmy S, you'd just assume they were "indifferent" about you, would you?

This place is worse than a fucking sewer sometimes with all its internet bravado bullshit.

I was speaking about my own feelings towards his capabilities as a manager.

I don't need the thoughts of others to form my opinions - including yours.

His brand of football was turgid and safety-first beyond looking to win games in my opinion, and hence my indifference towards him.

...and equally I clearly don't need you telling me that what I've read ranks as indifference rather than hatred, I know what I've read and I know how I feel about it. It wasn't even you who I was annoyed at so why you're "white knighting" the opinions of others is beyond me.

It’s bloody sad isn’t it, some are so desperate to show they can be the most bitter and spiteful, even worse they do the same to young English players.

I don't really understand it, but to be fair there are lots of aspects of modern "culture" that I don't really understand.

I imagine it's the culture/psychology of crowd mentality (or something like that) along with the faceless anonymity of the internet, so it's sort of expected, or so I'm told. Apparently it's just harmless "fun" and not a big deal.

I just find it all a bit unnecessary considering that his only "crime" was to be very, very close to being our most successful international manager ever, despite the style of play he deployed.

Each to their own I suppose :) "it's all just harmless fun and not a big deal really" ;)

100% that's what it is, it's just easy to be on side of hating and moaning about everything as more than likely we will dare lose a match then can feel justified about being a negative boring fucker all through a tournament.
I did remind some that the same abuse on Southgate will be aimed at the next manager regardless if they have a different style/tactics etc. and lo and behold Tuchel is already getting the same treatment, same for whoever is after him and forever after that- we're a nation of moaners and in todays social media world it will never end.

We certainly are a main of moaners. Tuchel will get it even more because he won't even be getting us to the advance stages of competitions. And he is foreign.

Iv come to the conclusion we deserve what we get.

It is obvious that you are incapable of reading, so I've wasted enough time with you.

" white knighting " - fuck off, you've had your day in the sun.

So what’s the excuse for every other England manager since 66 ?
Been run by the media, shit scared of offending anyone and getting the media on their back, look at the Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes farce, successive managers never had the balls to drop one on favour of the other, that’s were that golden generation fell down. Oh and not practising penalties.

First thing he did was drop Rooney and get him out squad which he was met by criticism from many

On the list of football manager knights, only Winterbottom and Southgate have not won a trophy in their managerial career.

Southgate was a very good manager and transformed the culture of the England squad. His failing was to be a very ordinary coach.
It’s two jobs really; who was good at both?
Venables was an excellent coach but a poor manager, for example.

Mad how people still defend him. I don't mean defending some of the hatred filled stuff which apparently has been said. He seems a nice guy, he did bring a togetherness back to England and clearly joy to the players in pulling on the shirt. He was tactically inept and that is being kind. We didn't get to finals because of him, we got there due to very favorable draws and in spite of him. Deserved to be nowhere near a knighthood. The level of his next club will be all the indications you need

He copied the MO of Venables. Create a harmony in the squad, reduce the pressure on the players and, unlike Venables, practice penalties! But as you say, for all the excellent work he did in creating the feel good factor and pride around the squad he just wasn't good enough tactically. He saw the benefit in being hard to beat, that you could go far in tournament football being disciplined and low risk.

We built "success" in 2018 on the set piece and counter attack, continued it in 2021 and in 2022 played some very good football at times and were very unlucky to lose to an excellent French team - it happens.

The last Euro's was a hard watch. Yes we made the final, but my god it was through luck more than anything else - it purely relied on moments. There was no strategy, no clear idea of how he wanted to play or what the strongest team was. It undid a lot of the good work that went before it by picking names over the best team.

Overall he brought some joy back, created some wonderful moments but wasn't good enough as a coach sadly - but only one has been when it comes to England. He's clearly a nice guy, a good guy too - whether that's enough to get knighted...not my call! But I don't begrudge him. He's done a lot more for football in this country than Beckham who has whored himself to get one.

Southgate and Beckham at Wimbledon today both whispering to each other how the fuck have we both conned everyone and managed to get knighted
