Club World Cup - Summer 2025

I’m not vaguely annoyed. I’m looking at it like I did our trips to the Isle of Man, but with £100m as the prize money.

I’ve only watched highlights so far but I’ll watch the later stages.

Like I said previously I want to see City win every game. Whether that’s the first team, the women, the U16s or the Junior Blues.

I’ll be annoyed if we’re physically fucked and falter in the last few months of title challenge though due to this tournament. But let’s wait and see if that happens first.
I'm happier having the tournament with competitive matches rather than a meaningless fake cup or matches against a Hong Kong XI a dozen substitutes

The number of comments on media articles from cartel fans, saying that greedy City and Chelsea shouldn’t have played in this tournament. Honestly, I understand the jealousy, but it is mandatory for any club that qualifies, whether or not they fancied it. FIFA control the world game, at least for now, and could’ve heavily sanctioned any club that declined to turn up. But, as usual, let’s not let the facts get in the way of a bit of City bashing.

Pros:
1. No Liverpool
2. Much better quality than I expected
3. A private world cup experience (no nationalist media frenzy of flags and nonesense)
4. Great way to bed in new players and staff.
5. Great exposure for the club as long as we continue to play well

Cons:
1. The US is not a place we want to be promoting at the moment
2. The times of games for us at home
3. The coverage isn't consistent (for me anyhow) with no replays that I can find
4. The length of the season for players is crazy (need bigger squad rules imo to allow for rests)
5. Even though I love Liverpool not being there, the qualification must be a bit off to not have them there given that they just won the PL.

I am enjoying this as much as a world cup because it is City. A great idea imo. I'll try to get to the next one I think.

How many of our players were overplayed last season? Gvardiol, Bernardo and who else?

Dias missed many games through injuries in the first half of last season, as did most our defenders in the second half, Gvardiol aside.

Rodri didn't play, Kovacic had injuries and isn't playing in the CWC. Doubt Reijnders and Cherki are too tired. Gonzales isn't playing. Haaland missed two months and needs games to find form, Foden as well. Doku and Savinho haven't been overplayed either. Bobb needs games, etc.

This tournament has a lot more upsides than downsides for City specifically. A lot of players need minutes except for Gvardiol, Bernie and Dias.
Reijnders has had 65 for club and country so far this season.

The injuries you highlighted are the symptom of too many games, as well as poor form like Foden through mental exhaustion at the schedule since 2022 playing the most games in the world in the most competitive league.

It is good to integrate the new players, but doesn't help the burn out which manifested itself in our results from November onwards.

So to qualify for this competition in 4years time do we have to win the champions league in that period unless we win it this year.

Exactly that or at least make 3 of the next 4 finals.

Is it in Hebden Bridge?

So basically the red scum have no chance of taking part next time unless they change the criteria to suit.

It doesn't use that @Carlos- the- jackal

The column on the left is correct, but only CL points from 2024/25 count so far so we 4th in England with half those of Villa, Arsenal, Liverpool although we know villa can't get any points next season.

City are joint 20th in the points table to qualify overall, so no where near even if there wasn't 2 team per country limit.
This is rubbish. We are talking about the next CWC, presumably in 2029.

So no one has a clue what the one-year or five-year UEFA Club Rankings will be by then.

Presumably now that the profile of this competition has been raised by the change in format, United and Liverpool will suddenly remember they won it in 2008 and 2019 respectively and won’t stop banging on about it.

Very good chance of us being in the next one too providing 2 English clubs don't win champions league in the next 4 years

I get your point that liverpool are PL winners but its not a criteria for the CWC, similar to barcelona and several top teams that won their domestic leagues.
Had Chelsea not won the CL, liverpool may have qualified for the current tournament.
villa are currently ahead of us in the rankings for the 2029 CWC so we cannot afford any more poor performances like last season.

The access list for club world cups is a published document with key principles, that gives me more than a clue.

It is the same for all confederations so not something Uefa can change to favour the history clubs. The only thing not determined is the host club selection criteria and max slots for each country.

They have never used the Uefa rankings, one year or 5 year, it is 4 year champions league points which is a different system.

As it stands City are 20th with 3 years to go, 4th in England. Which isn't rubbish.

One English club winning it would put us under pressure
I am assuming that ourselves, arsenal and liverpool also qualify for the final 2 champions leagues in the 4 year period.
It looks like being a 3 horse race for CWC qualification too.
