Club World Cup - Summer 2025

I’m really looking forward to Flamengo vs Bayern tonight.

I don’t care if there are only 3 people there but I would challenge anyone to count the Flamengo fans!

I expect Bayern to prevail but it will be like an away match for them against the strongest team in the World outside of Europe.
Me too. The South Americans surprised me. I wasn't aware that they were so strong.

I'm expecting at least 10, any more is a bonus.

Our American residents on here — I'm very careful about calling them “Yanks”, since I've been sharply reprimanded for it — would have something to say about that. It seems to me that I've seen posts confirming that pretty severe thunderstorms are regular occurrences in that part of America, at this time of the year. And there's a standard protocol for public events out in the open, since people can and do get killed.
Let's face it, the CWC is very largely about marketing, and the “brand” of football. They knew there was a good chance of this happening.
Anyway, they have weirdo things over there, like hurricanes with women's names, tumbleweed blowing down streets in the south-west, and mini-twisters that you can apparently get inside and run around in when you're a kid (was told this many years ago by a friend from Oklahoma who said that was what they did to amuse themselves).
My kids swim in an outdoor summer swim league and after every thunderclap we all have to file off the pool deck to our gas guzzling SUVs for 30 mins, annoying but it’s the rules

Well, that's a bit odd, because if anything's going to kill you, it's the bolt of lightning. Something I've just discovered on looking it up — apparently only 10% of people who are struck by it are killed by lightning. I would have thought the survival rate would be much lower.
I don't suppose you're feeling too clever if you do get struck and survive, mind.

The variance is much bigger than usual. We are seeing crowds of 20,000 for one game and then 60,000 for the next. Inter Miami play PSG this evening. That should be a big crowd.
such variances were the norm in england for decades, its not just a CWC thing

All those other US sports competitions that are suspended for weather breaks are jokes as well, I suppose? That will be news to them.
The only sport that is regularly delayed for weather is baseball and you literally couldn't play it in a downpour. The ball gets wet and slippery so pitchers who regularly throw 95mph plus could kill somebody. They play football in the snow all the time.

Haven't watched many games a part from ours? Most have been drab affairs or one sides. Have there been many decent games? The last international world cup got stick pre tournament but at least threw up some classic games

Yes. But remember the groups were seeded and that means many games will have been one-sided. Chelsea v Benfica extra time was amazing but the 90 mins was boring.

If you want a long term bet, keeping your betting slip safe, bet on Kompany to manage City after Pep.

When they interrupt the games due to the storms what do the supporters do. Are they just staying in the stands running the risk to getting fried
