Club World Cup - Summer 2025

Yeah, just watched the Chelsea highlights and there can't have been more than a thousand behind the goal for their winners. I know it was massively delayed and went to extra time, so perhaps people had to leave early, but it wasn't a good look. It was probably a mistake to host it in the US. It seems like it would be tailor-made for a southern hemisphere country, especially one of the South American teams. But I guess it's supposed to be a test for the World Cup.
The crowd left the stadium for about 90 minutes due to a thunderstorm. There were 25k there in normal time and then the game stopped. Many people did not return. I almost have up on the game. There was 4 minutes of normal time when the game stopped and everyone had to wait for ages for it to resume. I don't think everyone stuck it out.

Hope so. That would trigger the usual suspects
I wasn't arsed about this tournament, but seeing how desperate the red cartel (and their media representatives) are to downplay it, makes me want to watch it even more. Literally the 5th story when I load the BBC Football website for a full 6 days since he said it is a story about Jude Bellingham saying that the pitches aren't great. Often you have to scroll down to find anything about the actual results, but apparently the state of the pitches, based on a single player's opinion, has been one of the five biggest football stories for closing in on a week.

Only averaging 34,000 !!

The PL averaged 40,400 last season.

By the end of the CWC, the average attendance is likely to be above 41000, even though it's related to the bigger US stadiums.

Overall, the games at the CWC are likely to have higher average attendance than any of the best leagues in Europe...

Average attendance in the CL 24/25: 44,000.

I wouldn't call a 35% chance likely and that's each teams individual chance of making the final, the chances of both us making it will be much lower.
OK fair point. I should have said It is the most likely outcome. We can say that the likelihood of City reaching the final is much higher than 20%.

Enzo Maresca seems to agree with me.

Maresca says a lot of things. Especially when his team don't perform too well. He also said "This isn't for us" but I don't see him fucking off home.

He wouldn't have mentioned the weather break if they had been one nil down after 86 minutes then scored four after the break.

I know what Guardiola would have said in the same situation. When he starts saying the competition is a joke, I will start listening.

The competition has been a mixture of brilliant and farcical due to the weather. I think we have played 26 games now and 5 have been suspended due to weather. We will know from the MLS or other sports as to whether this is usual, and then determine what to do about it. It must be one off weather else the organisers are idiots for selecting those stadia.

Our American residents on here — I'm very careful about calling them “Yanks”, since I've been sharply reprimanded for it — would have something to say about that. It seems to me that I've seen posts confirming that pretty severe thunderstorms are regular occurrences in that part of America, at this time of the year. And there's a standard protocol for public events out in the open, since people can and do get killed.
Let's face it, the CWC is very largely about marketing, and the “brand” of football. They knew there was a good chance of this happening.
Anyway, they have weirdo things over there, like hurricanes with women's names, tumbleweed blowing down streets in the south-west, and mini-twisters that you can apparently get inside and run around in when you're a kid (was told this many years ago by a friend from Oklahoma who said that was what they did to amuse themselves).

My biggest joy is now checking how richer we are getting incrementally via progressing through each round
Safe in the knowledge it is pissing the Red Cartel notably our bankrupt US of A neighbours well off
Are you any relation to Warren Buffett?

It’s a good way of putting it.

By the time we get to the final, and taking an average….every game would have filled Stamford Bridge.

The stadiums in USA are huge.

City fans turning into empty seat spotters and pointing a finger is ironic to say the least. The amount of money people have spent getting there and staying there and travelling between locations is huge.

For its first iteration the competition has greatly exceeded my expectations to the extent that, when it’s over, I’ll miss it.

I know a lot of blues just want to see us domestically beating the usual suspects….I do too, but this has been a nice change, something different.

As long as they keep it to once every 4 years I’ll always look forward to it..even if we aren’t in it.

Remember we are the defending champions. I want that gold patch to stay on our shirt for the next 4 years…if only to piss off Liverpool who only got to wear it for a handful of games.

I’m taking nothing for granted, but we are the only team to win every game and have a more than reasonable draw as a reward.

4 wins away from history whether we like it or not.

As soon as we are knocked out I expect a fair share of our fans will not be bothered and look forward to playing “real football” against Burnley. That sounds like I’m taking the piss…because I am, but I do understand it too!

The variance is much bigger than usual. We are seeing crowds of 20,000 for one game and then 60,000 for the next. Inter Miami play PSG this evening. That should be a big crowd.
I’m really looking forward to Flamengo vs Bayern tonight.

I don’t care if there are only 3 people there but I would challenge anyone to count the Flamengo fans!

I expect Bayern to prevail but it will be like an away match for them against the strongest team in the World outside of Europe.

Spot on!

Just been listening to that condescending snobbish Henry Winter criticising this tournament. What a sneering twat of a man!

England needed Ben Foster according to him, much better than James and Joe Hart after he played about 6 times for Mu approaching the 2010 WC.
