North Stand Construction Discussion

Do we recon (or anyone know) if they will clad the sprinkler tank plant unit? A part of me thinks be cool leaving it like that. The roof edges though do look like they could take cladding going into them. Nothing at all noted in the approval.

Went from building bridges to producing steel lintels for mainly housing then into oblivion :-(
A bit more involved than that.

Dorman Long were known for producing steel lintels that almost invisible from the outside.

They ended up as part of British Steel after nationalisation in the 1960s. They then were ‘restructured’ into Redpath Dorman Long. After privatisation they became part of Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Company.

Cleveland Bridge was involved in lengthy legal disputes after being taken over by Saudi interests. The projects involved were The Shard in London and especially Wembley Stadium.

Remember all those Cup Finals, Playoffs, and RL Cup Finals played in Cardiff and Edinburgh due to delays in rebuilding Wembley? Cleveland Bridge was liquidated in 2021.

Is their going to be a big LED screen as you walk up Mercer way to look at on the front of the stand, if not why? It woukd look outstanding, just look at Atalanta falcons stadium an various others around the world incorporating these big screens it just looks class, I cabtbunderstand why the whole for the co op arena outside wasn’t LED, they could do advertising and stuff to bring in cash on them.

Are there any updates on the 3 digital screens?

Local residents concerns about the brightness of the screens.

I have a very vague memory of the screens being reviewed by MCC after the local residents concerns.

I could be wrong?
The one facing towards Asda and the flats over the road has to be static images only. The others are ok.

See below list of conditions agreed on with the separate approval for the screens as its own application.

Yeah screen C has some onerous conditions.
- no moving images or video
-no images that resemble road signs
- no individual ads less than 10 second slides
- controls to ensure smooth gradual transition between ads
- light sensor to adjust brightness in ambient light levels
- default black screen in event of malfinctuon, i.e no error messages or flashing watnings
- limited luminance levels
- limited upward light spill (presumably top buffers/overhangs.

Screens A and B are less onerous, they allow videos and moving images, as long as they don't resemble road signs.

All 3 screens need to be 'tested' prior to first use, and assessed for distracrion to tram drivers during darkening hours. With potential to add further measures upon assessment at the time.

Annual monitoring process of the backing boards, with action to he carried out within 2 months if identified needing addressed.

All 3 to be switched off from midnight till 7AM. Or when not 'required' to be in use.

For all the roof and structure discussions. Don't say I'm not good to you, below a rough handy guide of how I understand this to be planned to happen.

Feels like a lifetime ago I posted this, when there was very little to see on site, and the stand was roughly between steps 2 and 3 of the above.

We are finally at 'step 10'.

.
Thanks.

It's going to look pretty cool around the North stand, what with the two giant screen at the end of the claws, the Coop Live Arena digital Halo, and the light coming through the 3000 capacity fan zone ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) roof during the night games. Our own Times Square.(ish) It would be good if Joe Mercer Way was lit up as well.
