27 | Matheus Nunes - 2025/26

The other big problem that doesn't seem to have been covered with playing Nunes at RB is this: what if Nunes, our OK-ish but not great RB is injured and our next game is against a top side, a game which we must win?

Then we're downgrading from an OK-ish to, a "maybe OK, I least I hope so" RB. This is far from ideal.

We need a top class, first-choice, starting RB - and Nunes can provide backup.

Yes it's possible that our first choice RB is injured and can't play against a top side - but we'll have Nunes as backup, at least most of the time.

The alternative - Nunes as first choice RB - and some patchwork fill-in as backup - is obviously sub-optimal.
Play Kush easy ( no sign needed, Come near me I'l kill you )

Indeed. Had it not been for the fact that injuries meant all our CBs were needed elsewhere, Nunes likely wouldn't have got a sniff of RB.

And now we have an actual LB, a right back who can play in midfield is likely exactly what Pep wants.

Huh?

If you want to play a potential up-and-coming world class CB at RB - then, Khusanov is the perfect pick.

On the other hand, if you want to start a world class RB, who defends well, can read the game at RB, presses well, and is able to seamlessly transition forward into an attacking role, able to put deft crosses into the middle, and to interchange with our RW, able to cut inside and create dangerous opportunities by dribbling past defenders...

Well, Khusanov is obviously not the best fit.

Nunes as backup RB is fine - but a WC RB able to do all of the above is what we need.

And, I don't for the moment believe, that no such player in the entire world is available to sign.

He played alright, we actually played well first half. The yellow card for him and gvardiol cost us becuase Ake and Akanji run like there stuck in mud and Akanji offers zero going forward. If i was the opposition id let akanji have the ball all day.

Blown away that tolmie chose to single him out for blame despite not having watched the game. When you got a hammer etc etc..

Ridiculous yellow card as well clearly won the ball poor ref

We always look worse when Nunes goes off.

This was happening last season as well.

The downgrade to Akanji is unreal.

Atleast play Khusanov as the backup, because he has recovery pace for transitions.
Yet read the transfer thread and some "city fans" are saying he should only start for a poor city side. For me I want him at right back and if we get another, homegrown, who is good but has potential (not sure who that is other than Livramento) then I am happy with that. Failing that keep Kyle for the season as backup as he is homegrown and does not seem to be attracting interest and then get a rb next summer

On a non football note, Based on the vacation pics, looks like he has been adopted by Josko’s Croatian crew. He vacationed with them last year too. I think they might be the only non married/partnered players at City their age?

He has a partner as far I know

I say one thing. If he gets injured, we could easily be fucked. No other option to play high up. Would mean changing rhe whole system for a center half or Lewis at right back
