Tino Livramento

Why not ?

PL is stronger than the French league, so why not get out of your comfort zone. Money talks.
“Money talks” doesn’t apply when we’re talking about PSG. Do you really think they’d be willing to negotiate for one of their best players who may be the best in the world at his position?

PL may be stronger than the French league, but they’ll win Ligue 1 in March/April and be well rested for deep Champions League runs. That’s as good a chance of a double or treble as you’re going to get.

Financial or football reasons, PSG is a better destination at the moment. Younger more developed team that can dominate Europe for the next half decade with a manager who is bought in and backed by one of the richest clubs in the world.

I think the problem a lot of people are having with him, is that he isn't Kyle Walker.

Anybody we got after Walker was almost certainly going to be a downgrade. Walker on his day was the best RB in the world.

It's also not a good year to need a RB, because there aren't a lot of great ones available, especially with the HG issues we very well may have, we need to find someone who is an HG player, and Livramento seems to tick a lot of the boxes.

We'll be getting knicked for route 1 goals and break aways all season unless Pep loosens up his "must play a high line" mindset

It's been nine years and people still say this when things aren't going our way.

Under Pep, we have never compromised on playing a high defensive line and we're not going to start now. It's been an integral part of our success.

The high line isn't the problem. If the players can't handle the demands of it then they aren't good enough. That's the bottom line.

Are you saying just get the cheque book out again. We've already spent close to 250 million this year.

I don't really care, I'm just saying it how it is.

If we intend to carry on partnering Ruben Dias with a pair of attacking full backs in our defence this season then we're going to concede plenty of goals.

So either integrate the defensive players we bought in January, go and buy a right back who can actually defend or accept what we have and rely purely on firepower up front to restore us to former glory.

Those are our choices.

Defensively he is. That's the part we need.
Yeah by an absolute mile. He’s a lot better going forwards than many seem to realise too. I’m assuming because we’re in the age of stats so people just look at his lack of assists. He very good on the ball as well as without it

Probably not in Pep's eyes. Pep will want whoever helps us in possession, rather than out of it. If we end up losing the ball more and having to defend more because Livramento isn't quite as comfortable in tight situations as Lewis or Nunes, then that's just inviting more attacks.

I like Livramento to a point, but Newcastle often have pretty low possession % against good teams, so it might be that we aren't totally sure he'd work for us.

Kyle Walker was one of our most important players for years and he wasn't even half the player Livramento is on the ball.

Pep wants what's best for the team and he acknowledged months ago how shit we are without the ball. That will be his main concern, especially after the Club World Cup.

Again, I'm not saying Livramento is the only answer but on the defensive end he's a damn sight better than what we have and in possession he's better than many seem to be giving him credit for.

Walker has to all intent and purposes left us now and we need a new very good right back not a make do replacement. We are also under pressure to sign English players so Livramento does tick this box. We also have the money to spend so if we need to pay over the odds this is the way things are.

The lad is crap.

He's a shite midfielder and a shite RB. He might be the best option at RB out of our current squad, but that says more about the lack of quality in our defense than him being good enough. Livramento is ridiculously overpriced, but at least he is an actual fullback and not a crap midfielder being asked to play there.

Jesus. If you want to think about player X only being able to play this position and player Y this position, then just fucking get Warnock in and go 4-4-2.

We all know Pep likes midfielders playing everywhere, and that's because they are all comfortable on the ball, so you keep the ball better. Buying an English guy who only ever plays right-back goes against that a bit. I like Livramento in Newcastle's system, but I'm not convinced he'll suit ours.

If Nunes ends up never playing a different position for the next 5 years will you still be saying "he's not a right-back"? For me that's what he is now - and up and down right-back, maybe more accurately a wing-back. If we play well and keep the ball well, he's a good option. Might not be the absolute best, but he's a better defender than the guy Real Madrid just signed and they tend to do ok!

Hard to judge based on how Newcastle play I guess. For me anyway. I like him for them, and he could do well for us - but I don't think it's a cert by any means.

Pep will probably be thinking about our shape and ensuring we make enough passes so that everyone is positioned correctly, more than new signings I expect.

That will be part of it but the bottom line for me is that we don't have anyone with any defensive quality who can play on the right side of defence.

What we do on the ball can alleviate pressure on the backline but there will be moments when our backs are against the wall and we need strong defenders. This was true even during our best years.

Agreed yeah, but how many games are we up against it? How many games would we benefit from a better 1v1 defender, IF that costs us going forward? And which games for that matter?

IF we're looking at £70m for him, he needs to be the best option for all games. He could be - if the club decides he's the one, then I hope we get him.

Every game. We've just conceded our most league goals in a campaign for 15 years. A big reason for that is that we had no defensive quality on the right side of our backline.

Our style of play has been and always will be vulnerable to counterattacks. It's absolutely necessary to have strong, aggressive defenders to cover that weakness.

We are currently a glass cannon and this has been proven to us again and again over the last twelve months.

Spot on. Most of the opposition counter attacks come from the wings with one of a FB's well out of position and not able to get back
