This is the key part imo. We had a pretty big bias towards signing (established) English players at one point, branching out from that was always going to happen, and even Taylor was better at integrating foreign signings than Cushing was.
 
Seems like we’ve signed Sydney Lohmann from Bayern. The club website leaked it earlier by listing her as a midfielder and as an option for shirt printing. Few people managed to screenshot it in time. Good addition to midfield in an area we’re very thin

Saw something posted a few days ago about it being a possibility. Nice if it's actually happened.
 
Off to YouTube I go to search "Sydney Lohmann". Looks strong and quite skillful. Also seems like a bit of a wind up merchant, which I do like.

Wonder if Stanway had a word with her.

Can't see any confirmation on this. The timing seems a bit strange - i.e. the day before the Euros start and it's not as if she's just out of contract (her current deal expires in 12 months time).

Anyway, it looks like she's more of an attacking midfielder than a central one, and in one listing of Germany's squad I saw she is identified as a forward. So arranging the non-defence in a 2-3-1 formation she's more in the 3 than the 2 (so most like half our squad). Looks to be a Roord replacement.

I went down a bit of rabbit hole looking at various Euro previews. The takes from these are:

1. She's on the fringes of Germany's starting 11. It's about 40/60 whether she starts or not. Knaak on the other hand is expected to start.

2. Beney is expected to start for the Swiss. In terms of our squad, she looks to be cover for Fujino. I do wonder whether we'd have signed her if Mary hadn't done her ACL.

3. There was a fair degree of positivity about our new manager (assuming it is Jeglertz).

Never said there was confirmation mate. I said the club seemed to have accidentally leaked it

The timing seems a bit less weird when you factor in it leaked a week ago initially. There was a photoshoot leaked by a stylist. Tbh there was no way of telling if it was actually Lohmann from the picture but for whatever reason a lot of people believed they had intel to say it was. If it is indeed the case we signed her it seems as though it was actually all boxed off a couple of weeks ago before she left for the euros but they've taken the decision to hold off on announcement.

Can't say I know much about her but I really wanted us to replace Roord with an 8 and it appears to be the case that she plays that position. She should also be coming into her prime at her age. Injury record is slightly concerning but seems a solid signing in an area of the pitch that its needed. Fans of other teams seem a bit gutted we've got her so im all for that too.

Ah ok - sounds good and explains it.
From what I saw/read yesterday she's more of a 8/10 hybrid instead of a 6/8 hybrid, but I still live in hope that we may sign one of those - particularly given that Yui will be missing for 2 months next season.

Certainly signing a German international in their prime whatever their position is a tick from me!

(And unless I have still completely missed it there's been nothing official about Laura Coombs who is now out of contract.)

Hallelujah!

This was exactly the sort of signing I was expecting last summer. We ended up putting all of our eggs in a very fragile basket labelled 'Vivianne Miedema'.

Just need to be careful we don't end up with a significant right-left imbalance in the squad now.
