World’s worst kept secret. It’ll be interesting to watch Denmark tomorrow. I’ve read opinions of people who know his teams quite well and they speak positively about the way he sets up his teams to play

Five year deal! They must be confident he’s the right person for the job..

Edit: also seen it’s reportedly a four year deal. Seems the journos aren’t sure

Nevermind, City have confirmed 3 year contract. That makes more sense.

I really hope we did the right choice. We will just have to wait and see. Jeglertz, welcome to Manchester City

These are the games Denmark played over the past 13 months or so. Jeglertz won 9 out of 15 games, 60%, which at first glance looks fine. But having a closer look, he lost all games against the decent/strong teams: 1) Spain, twice; 2) Sweden, twice including the most recent 6-1 hammering; and 3) The Netherlands. He also lost once to Italy (0-3), which are not so good, and defeated them once (3-1). Apart from that, he was able to defeat the mediocre/weak teams: 1) Czechia, twice; 2) Belgium, twice; 3) Wales, twice; and 4) South Africa.

If we take his results to the WSL (I know this might not be exactly the same), most likely he will win many games, but he will lose the key ones, including to Chelsea, Arsenal, and United. He may also lose the odd game (his loss to Italy) to Tottenham, Brighton, West Ham or Aston Villa. I am afraid we will be getting another “yes” man whose mission will be to agree on playing the “City Football Group’s preferred profile,” and it doesn’t matter if this profile is suitable for our women players and also regardless of winning trophies. But, in the great scheme, who cares about winning trophies as long as the women adhere to the “City Football Group’s preferred profile” and keep passing the ball aimlessly for 90+ minutes. I am afraid the Club and City Football Group have been obsessed by too much of the “holistic approach,” even when obviously this approach is not working for everyone and every team. Very disappointing, at the least.

I think it's safe to say that the interviews would have been done some time ago as you'd think he's rather occupied in Switzerland at the moment.

I was expecting the announcement to be made as soon as Denmark exited. Though I suppose it's shades of Bobby Robson announcing he was taking over PSV mid-way through Italia 90. And that (Robson-at-PSV) didn't turn out too shabbily if I recall correctly.

Club football is different to the international game - he will get to spend more time with the players. I think the biggest need for us was to employ a great communicator & a tactician. Taylor was hopeless at that. Hopefully Andree with the addition of a new player or two we will have a decent squad to work with. I hope he does well.

He is presenting himself very well. I like him already. There are some outstanding players at City, so let us finally win the WSL Andree.

I think winning the WSL in his first season is a bit of a stretch, just getting the Taylor/Cushing crap out of them may take 6 months, and I've no idea what his "style of play" will be.

We have some very good players (assuming we don't lose any), but we also need some new additions.

Establishing ourselves as the best side behind Chelsea has to be the first objective- we then need to decide IF we want to go toe to toe with Chelsea which is gonna need a huge investment in playing staff because Chelsea’s present squad can only be matched by the rest of the league pooling their best players.

Spot on - all we can hope for next season is "to be competitive".

Even with the ridiculous injury list last year 2 more wins would have seen us finishing second.

I see the fixtures are out on the 25th. We could do with playing Chelsea/Arsenal/Ragettes matches 7-12 (and hope that repeats in the second half of the season) so we have an "easier" run to get his feet under the table and a similar run February/March when we're without Yui and her mates. That would give us a chance.

You have to give grudging respect to Chelsea how they manage to keep such a big squad happy. Ours was similar about 6-7 years ago but we lost a lot of players through not getting game time.

I am not convinced we were that far behind Chelsea when it comes to players’ quality. In my opinion, poor coaching was the main reason we didn’t win the league (at least the last 2 seasons). We were no less than Chelsea, if not better in some periods, until Taylor’s poor decisions prevailed, that in addition to the injuries of some of our key players. I remember that Chelsea struggled in several games, but they were able to win these games because of clever coaching and/or their good luck. It is not that difficult to be better than Taylor, and assuming our new coach is good enough to be better than Taylor and we won’t have bad fortune with injuries two years in a row, there is a realistic chance that we will win the league. I prefer to be optimistic for the sake of the players.

The goal, for all City teams, is to win silverware (and the income it brings) and reach the Champions League (and the income it brings), as the club seeks to create self-sustaining growth for every element of both Man City and the wider CFG.

If he can do that, he will have a long career here.

We must be behind Chelsea by some distance in the depth of their squad and money they are able to spend on player acquisitions ?

No arguments regarding Taylor who should have been fired seasons before or better still never employed in the first place. Piss poor management by the club.

I just checked. Right now we have 30 players and they have 42 (most likely these numbers will change before the season starts). But most of their additional players don’t play at all (unless I missed something). I am guessing they send majority of the extras on loan. Importantly, the number of players who play regularly (starters and substitutes) is almost the same from the two teams. For some reasons, Chelsea love a big squad; men or women. Looking at the names, I like more the general quality of our players. One more important point to consider, a large squad could become a burden not a privilege. It is not rare that a smaller squad will win it all at the end, but proper coaching and player management makes the difference most of the time. Let us hope for a successful season after the drought years.

Thanks for the info.

Something about Chelsea men/women teams that somehow doesn't ring true, but hey that's another topic.

Indeed let's hope the new coach has a positive effect and manages to give everybody a buzz post Gareth fucking Taylor !

I think though if you go back to the league game at the Bridge before the injury crisis hit its peak (Hemp and Aleixandri were the only regulars out), and compared the benches there was a significant difference. Heck, I can even remember the Sky pundits saying as such.

Of the 30 you mention, 12 are 21 or under.

There's a reasonable argument that we can put out a better starting eleven than them. Quick audit of the squad and I'd say there's around 16 players who if we can always pick 11 from we're in a good position.

Not being in the Champions League can give us an edge. Downside is we're probably more disadvantaged by the Asian Cup than anybody else.

Taylor should really have won the league in his first season. We had the better squad that year. Finishing second to Chelsea next year is not a disgrace (future signings notwithstanding).
