Cricket Thread

“He's in big trouble,” said one of the commentators on the match live stream. “The umpire's brought the bat gauge out, to measure the legality of Phil Salt's cricket bat, and it's not going through. That normally effects penalty points, doesn't it?”

How can a player end up with a bat that is too big?
They use big enough treetrunks nowadays anyway!

What does everyone else think; do we need one thread for Lancashire CCC and one for England?

I ask because I come on here wanting to read and post about Lancs and it’s 90% people posting about watching England on telly. I’m not hugely bothered but thought I’d raise it.

If no one likes this post I’ll assume not(!), but if you reckon Lancashire and England deserve separate threads give it a Like. For a sport with the importance of cricket, we can do better than one thread surely(?)

I wanted to discuss women's cricket.. that was some nail biter yesterday with the English and Indian gals.

A proper nailbiter till the end.

Maybe we need a different thread for that too?

I’m in. My attitude to Lancs vs England is very similar to my City vs England one. Infinitely more interested in the trials and tribulations of the former.

I see there were two remarkable centuries in the U19 match between Eng and Ind. 14 year old Suryavanishi hit 143 for Ind. He has scored a century for his state side in Indian cricket and is a super star in the making. (Oh no, not another Indian run machine!)
Rocky Flintoff scored 107 for Eng with 4 sixes but in vain as we were well beaten.

Good to see Rocky over his injury problems

Suryavanishi already has a century in the IPL as well. The second fastest ever in the over decade long competition.

And it seems like it's been no fluke. I've been keeping tabs on the games as some of them have been played at Northampton.

In the second game at Northampton he scored 86 off just 31 balls. For comparison Phil Salt scored 80 off 57 balls at the same ground just a few days after in the Blast. There's quick batting and then there's his level of boundary hitting.

That's pretty mad!

India really struggle for top batsmen, don't they?

I'm by no means a massive cricket fan, but was invited to attend the T20 at Old Trafford yesterday by a mate.
Got to say that I really enjoyed it. I'd only been to England test matches before, but I found the T20 format really accessible. The cheesy music during play and between overs was a tad "Americanised" but I guess most public events are these days.
It also helped being in the stand adjacent to the real ale bar, and being able to take in our own scran.
I'll definitely be back to give it another go.
