Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

Having concerns is one thing, not giving him the benefit of the doubt, saying or implying he's totally wrong and done at this level (yes, there are such posts) is something else altogether. Pep deserves at least the benefit of the doubt.
All down to Pep, he gets the plaudits and the brickbats - can't be any other way. We've become serial losers in a season.

Id agree if he didn't go to the club world cup with no injuries and do the same things . Same players picked , same tactics , same goals conceded , same games lost .
No he didn’t though he tried different players different tactics different formations over the 4 games, as I expected he would use the tournament to do, especially with new coaches, and decisions needing to be made on who stays and who goes. Some games some players some tactics worked better than others. Whats really weird is instead of looking at the 4 games as a whole a few posters are just using the game we lost and only the second half of that game at that to form an opinion on what Pep took from the tournament and how he’ll approach the season, as though he only did one thing, which he didnn’t.
That to me is seeing and taking what you want to take from a summer tournament to confirm your own prejudices. When you say same games lost you mean game singular, seems to be just the one game you want to count.

All the injuries and other problems are down to Pep? Is he kicking them in training or something?

Serial losers? We won 40 pts in the second half of the season, even though many players were injured...

Can people think?

Apparently not, it doesn't require super powers to work out we needed cover last summer, Pep has admitted his errors and they were terminal for us.

We should have got cover for Rodri last summer, we all know that but from memory we started the season only 1 short of our maximum squad size, Rodri injury made us 2 short. We had plenty of centre backs but we couldn’t keep 2 fit. So yes we should have covered Rodri but it wasn’t lack numbers that let us down it was too many players becoming too injury prone, and others aging, maybe we should have anticipated that too,but moving contracted players out is easier said than done..

Exactly so, failing to get Rodri cover was the obvious mistake but the reliance on veterans Gundo, Kova & Bernie was equally costly as it turned out as was relying on Stones & Ake given their injury track record. We scraped CL qualification (and a defeat on the last day at Fulham could have been disastrous for the club) we lost our league title by a mile, got beat miserably in the FA Cup, exited the CL at the last 16 stage and were lucky to be there for that. Add to that losing in the League Cup to the worst Spurs side in living memory (twice), same with the rags at home and being humiliated by Arsenal & Madrid - top it off with the latest pathetic performance v Al Hilal.

This is a bit hysterical. Not sure why people complain or whine so much these days. It's not like we have gone 30 years without a title or 12 years for that matter... 12 months ago we were champions and 9 months ago we were top of the PL table, unbeaten in Europe.

A dip in form was expected already after the Treble. The first sentence could have been written before 23/24. Hindsight is precious. Had we signed more players in the summer after the Treble, this might have disrupted somewhat the team atmosphere leading to missing out on 4 in a row. Nobody can be sure. It's very easy from the outside.

Thing is, no amount of planning can avoid a transitioning season or two. You can't find the next KDB, Stones, Bernardo, Gundo, Walker, etc just like that. Also, you can't throw these players out. They are legendary players and wanted to have another go. Kevin wanted to stay more years... Pep intended to leave, so the building of the new team was planned to happen under his successor.

Mistakes happen. They are costly when you haven't won titles and trophies for ages. Transitioning seasons are unavoidable. In this "disaster" season we did better than Klopp's Liverpool in 20/21 and 22/23 (5th). Not having downs for 4 years is the exception, not the rule. Some of our fans have lost all perspective whining a bit too much. Be happy with our recent (!) achievements and look forward to the next season. Personally, I expect good things to happen. The squad includes top, top talents.

Will be in the same situation next season if both Gundo and Bernardo stay. Pep will play them in midfield we will, get overrun defence will look fragile, concede on the counter and repeat. He won't change it and I don't know why. Al Hilal exposed the weakness, Palace did etc

The one who knows the future :)

I doubt it.

"He won't change it and I don't know why." Translation: Pep has gone mad.

Obviously the CWC wasn't a proper competition given when it was and how we rotated but if hes gonna play the old guard he should've been let go this summer

Still had enough on the pitch to really beat them but didn't finish them off.
Didn’t finish them off because for one our star striker for sone reason can’t hit a barn door and we have a keeper who shoukd be in the circus abd infront of him we have 2 crab football passers who can run back. Yet we have pace on the bench and a defensive mid who can at least stop the attacks before they start .we have a good squad forming but pep needs to pick the right team and not on sentiment.

I've read some mad comments on here over the years but "serial losers" about the team that had the best form in the league to finish third and got to an FA Cup final is quite the take.

99% of team would kill for that kind of serial losing. A portion of our fan base have become so used to winning that we can't handle a season of not doing so well.

It's not the tactics . It's the players that are going to be selected to play it . Dias and Akanji , Gundogan , Bernardo . Suicidal .
The worst thing is hes been doing it since October and it seems he's learned absolutely nothing. His stubbornness is beyond belief, we've clearly come to the end of a cycle player wise and he's refusing to accept it. The fact Gundogan is even still at the club is ridiculous which pains me to say as he's done so much for us.
