It's Quiet the £250m return

I know you've mentioned a loan deal in a previous post, Personally I don't think he will ever get himself into the starting 11 regularly as I don't think he's good enough.

We would all love Rico to succeed especially coming through the academy and being a blue, Unfortunately we still don't know what his best position is for us, Maybe the coaches are partly to blame for that? He's obviously been playing as an inverted right back alot of the time along with playing as an attacking midfield on a rare occasion like against Forest in the cup.

He's turning 21 in November, Maybe he'll want a move away too for regular first team football...Football is a short career so he'll surely want to make the most of it.
As said by others, he hasn’t got the correct physical attributes to be a top drawer fullback. No pace, lack of physicality, and tbh imo he doesn’t have the awareness to play there either, the amount of times I’ve seen him lose his man by ball watching etc.

Who knows though, maybe he’d prove some of us wrong if he went out on loan with less expectations, and found himself, then come back and be a first team player for us.

Can’t see it though personally.

I'm delighted by that too - I cannot fathom the negativity towards him.
Totally agree. Loads of potential..
There are plenty of much older (past it?) injury prone players who should leave before we consider selling Lewis.
It seems harsh to consider, and implementing, selling players who have been fantastic for us, but it has to happen. If not we can’t evolve. Akanji, Stones and Ake should lead the exodus. I think we need a dominant, young center back also. Not sure if Reis and Khusanov are ready yet, in fact I don’t think they are, but would love to be proved wrong.
Gundogan should also leave imho. Looks like Bernardo is here for the season..

Rico is still only 20. He does not use up a squad place and Pep obviously rates him. So many on here just want to get rid of him because they don't like him. Fortunately, Pep decides these things and not the haters.
Totally agree . I suspect Pep sees his long term future as a centre back in the same way he turned another diminutive midfielder Mascherano into a decent centre back. Know his stuff defensively and can come out with the ball. Probably teams up with Khusanov in the long term.

Rico Lewis will learn loads after last season. He's smart and knows his way about the pitch. He will be stronger physically as he gets older. I would look at how Liverpool developed Trent and Robinson none were strong breaking into that team both became top class fullbacks for them Pepjin Lijnders will be key with Pep in his development they will get him stronger and defensively sound.

Not sure about a centre back think Reis will be the one that becomes a ball playing centre back alongside Khusonov and Gvardiol. Do think Lewis over the next few years will develop into a very good player though

No chance. Who would be the right back then?

Nico only signed in January, there's no way the club decide to sell him imo.
Whilst I would agree, it does seem odd that since signing as the apparent Rodri cover in January, Nico has hardly featured either in the domestic season or during the CWC.

We paid 50m plus for him. Why on earth would the club sanction his exit when we've just paid that amount of money for him? If so, we look like a tinpot outfit. Won't happen, Pep was the one who wanted him here.

Irrelevant how much we paid for him, and when.

Say for example Pep doesn't rate him, or he's not settled and would like a move back to a sunnier environment, and someone offers us a good chunk of that £50m back.......given we have to move on some of our squad, I'd say there are few players that are truly untouchable.

Hahahaha.

Surely a Clarkie?

The problem that let's Rico down is his physical attributes. He's too small and too weak for the fullback role.

Look at someone two years younger than him in Myles lewis skelly he's the same technically as rico but is taller and stronger. Can hold off a winger just by using his strength.

Rico can read a tackle but he can't hold off a Winger or full back who's bigger than him. Too many times he ends up on the floor, ref won't give it as a foul either.

Most of the top level fullbacks have both attributes of physicality and technical ability, Nuno Mendes an example strong, fast and technically sound.
He gets caught out at the back post way too much too. In the air 2nd best every time also. Midfield for Rico all day. Hopefully for us at some stage . . .

Arnold literally started the moment he joined the first team.

The negativity in this thread, ffs.

Apparently half our players should be sold, the rest of the league have bought better and we're years away from winning anything again.

Did you guys watch how insane PSG were against Bayern.

The run they’re on … they look like us curbing the treble season.

Peep Hakimi’s assist for the 2nd goal. That’s what you break the transfer record for. Livramento is HG and got potential but i’d happily pay stupid cash for Hakimi.

The team creates chances nonstop even after winning it all. They don’t seem tired or out of ideas

Yeah let’s see how that team is after 4/5 years playing 60 games!? Oh it won’t matter because there league is one you can rest a full team when needed
