14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

who was responsible for signing him, Viana? If Viana brought him in and Pep's not playing him because he doesnt think he's good enough then Pep's gone at the end of this next season...

If this rumour turns out to be true, I can’t fathom it out. Gundogan keeps getting game time, despite his best days being behind him (and yes, he did okay towards the tail end of the season). Silva will presumably be getting lots of game time seeing as he's the captain now. Kovacic? Is he the future? We need to be building our attacking midfield around the likes of Cherki, Reijnders, Foden, and Gonzalez. With Rodri sat behind them, shielding our wobbly defence.

✅ #Información | Nico González's intentions are to stay with Manchester City.

Despite media pressure about a possible sale, the player's entourage is calm, and Nico will join training sessions with Pep.

As of July, for now, the focus is on City.

Pep's attitude towards Zinchenko changed dramatically after Mrs Z went public with her views, his game time reduced and he was offloaded at the first opportunity.
You may think he 'wasn't that great', but we haven't had anyone as adaptable on the left until O'Reilly progressed, and he's still only at the 'potential' stage.

Man-management is key. You can either work with an assortment of different personalities, characters, etc, or you can't. Mourinho can do it, as could Ferguson and Mancini. It's confrontational and fiery but when it works, it can be great.

As I see it, Pep can't do that. He's never been able to. Pep doesn't like players who don't meet his requirements 100%. Nothing wrong with that... it obviously worked for him at Barcelona, Munich, and City.

However, he's been here longer than anywhere before, and (in my opinion) he's become more erratic, and his system is getting stale. His attitude towards certain players signed over the last couple of seasons is quite bizarre. He doesn't trust players that he himself has been involved iin signing, some at phenomenal cost.

It's not what I personally would expect of a good manager. It's certainly not what I would expect of a top / elite manager. While technically, I think he’s the best coach in the business, personally, I think he’s as good as done as a man-manager, and is close to packing it in altogether.
Manager has a year off winning the title and the daggers come out.

Another history lesson! If you honestly think 24/25 Pep City is anywhere near as good as 22/23 Pep City then fair enough. I don't. It's been a slow decline in performances since we won the CL imo.

Yes... Even though we won the 'four in a row' in 23/24. The signs of decline were already there and it got worse in 24/25. We only finished third because the teams in 4th to 7th were awful.

Recent history is usually a lot more enlightning than that of the more distant past.

If we let Gonzalez go, it's because we think we can sign a better player, or at least as good and HG. We won't sell him without finding a good replacement.

It's obvious we had to add bodies to the squad in January to help ourselves make the CL. Some of the new players may not fit how we want to play, so we may entertain replacing them with players that are likely to be more useful.

All speculation right now fuelled by not giving more minutes to Khusanov and Gonzales. But many players had difficult first seasons under Pep. IIRC, we made Cancelo the most expensive FB ever and he was disappointing in his first season, but then made the PFA team of the year in back to back seasons. Too early to tell.

We genuinely don't deserve Pep with "fans" like you. The best manager in the game, an unprecedented period of success for any club let alone City, and you vomit up takes like these.

I'll be upset if Nico walks too, but if Pep hasn't earned your trust - and the right to pick his squad without you continually moaning over multiple posts - then your "opinion" isn't worth paying any attention to.

Simon Bajkowski is kind of an approved City mouthpiece. Writes for the MEN, only tends to put word out when it's come to him from one of his contacts.

'Approved'...!

Bajkowski has been a joke of a j'ournalist' for years at the pathetic MEN. If he's actually getting inside information from anyone at City, it's most likely to be from a programme seller.

City effectively stopped 'working' with the MEN years ago. They're lucky to get in to do match reports.

I dare say that your opinion isn't worth paying any attention to either. The difference is that I'm quite happy to accept that it's your opinion and you're entitled to express it.

You trust in Pep, I don't. Simple as that.

Probably best aired in the appropriate thread. You’ve let us all know where you stand already.

So, can you do better? Never seen you as an expert pundit on any of the football channels or press. What are your credentials? Please list them and convince me you are a better judge than Pep.

Under the terms of his contract he has no option

But he is right about team being on decline since the treble season ,thats a fact. Things need to change and im still not convinced we have proper players to win it all again ,but i trust Pep and he is the best.

I've not said that I am, and wouldn't claim to be. I'm just giving my opinion from my own experience.

He's obviously serial winner, but personally, I find him overly egotistic, arrogant, and unreasonably dismissive of players that he decides he doesn’t like. He's been the same throughout his coaching career.

You 'trust in Pep', I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. Simple as that.

Gonzalez is an excellent player and don't believe he's going anywhere. It's possible we did better than expected in the transfer window and find ourselves a little top heavy in that department. Being a much sort after player, financially City might be looking down that avenue.

Hahaha if a none city supporter posted that I’d understand all your posts! Come across as so bitter towards Pep like he has upset you

He was never going anywhere.

A narrative was created on social media to try and understand why he didn’t play as many minutes as possible.

He might even have had niggly injuries in the CWC, limiting his game time, or he was going to start the next game.

It’s all a smokescreen anyway. He’s not playing as he bought Pep the wrong hair conditioner.
