Club World Cup - Summer 2025

They fucked up hosting the first tournament that was already being met with widespread critisim and contempt in the USA, where extra cheese and Donald Trump was added. Personally I hope City turn down future invitations or at least only send the kids it was farcical, and I was actually looking forward to it

What are you even basing this on?

The US were acting like this was the biggest football tournament ever haha.

And what was farcical? If you mean the weather and pitches etc, well it’s going to be the same next year. Should all countries refuse to play the 2026 WC?

The only real issues for me is the rest period for players and how this is factored in.

The clash of competitive football and US TV style production made it strange to watch.

Overall I enjoyed it. Seeing competitive club games between different continents have an insight into how they play the game.

It will stay and adapt.

The UK laughed at the first ever international world cup. When the scousers are in the next one guaranteed it will be covered by both BBC/ITV with full blanket coverage.

Only FIFA can fuck it up and they have a track record of it. Wouldn't surprise me if they decide they follow world cups and they go for Saudi in November 2032.

South America or Europe should hold the next one I hope. A traditional country to stabilise the tournament.

Brazil would be phenomenal and add greater fan engagement.

Should make it every year when champs league starts and let clubs if they want to drop out of champs league for it!

Now that will cause some shock waves

That is what UEFA and the big European clubs (who control UEFA) are worried about. If they really are worried about player welfare, cut the CL games in half. Not so worried now, are they?

They can see where the CWC is going and they don't like it because they can't control it.

Power and money. That's all.

Why no fuss over the multiple World Cups held in hot climates like Mexico, Spain, Italy, Brazil, and South Africa? The media coverage here has been biased, distorted, and as usual, influenced by fans and Directors of the Cartel Clubs LFC, AFC, and MUFC who have been spreading their usual poison behind the scenes. There is an unhealthy relationship between certain Club Directors, media pundits, and officials in the UK which means that certain clubs exert too much influence on the media narrative. You would think City fans, of all people, would not allow themselves to be manipulated. I trust what I have heard from my pals who actually attended the event in the US not what someone like Dan Roan thinks.

It helped that South Africa was held in winter, Brazil too for most of it.

Brazil was a disaster in 2000. The local population showed very little interest in the other games, that is why they didn't have another for a while and changed it to a shorter format when it came back.

If Brazil 2000 had worked it would likely have gone to 16 teams soon after and expanded to 32 a lot quicker than the 25 years.

Heat is not the only problem though. Brazil, Argentina, and Japan get plenty of extreme weather. I just think the media coverage of the CWC here has been deliberately distorted to create a negative narrative. The whole point of any World Cup is that it is played across the world. The BBC online team has tried to trash the event from start to finish. Even the Trump stuff is overblown. There are lots of controversial people (dictators) in other countries which have hosted the World Cup. I'll give you Putin for starters.

Watched every Chelsea psg game apart from the 2am one those was the two best teams and psg just looked the better team till Chelsea played them of the park last night! PSG just couldn’t live with the pace of the Chelsea game and the pressing plus the defending without the ball then especially the transitions they did to score there goals! I bet if you looked at the whole tournament bet Chelsea was the team who’s scored the most goals in transition..

After watching the final & a couple of PSG games the main takeaway from a City perspective would be if we want to win multiple competitions, it won't be done with a small squad which Pep somewhat obtusely sticks to.

Perhaps this strategy worked in the past, but in this day & age the competition is too great & if you're off or tired for one game, you'll get beaten. It was clear as day, regardless how young the PSG first 11 is they were tired & that's mostly down to Enrique consistently playing the same first 11. Great for consistency, but they're only human & there will be a drop off. This was amplified by a strong, fit Chelsea side who not only matched but outplayed the infamous PSG press which wasn't as fierce as at it was at the beginning of the competition.

Agreed, found it enjoyable at times. Watching Franco fc get bummed by PSG. Trent getting twatted by a Saudi farmer however the lack of rest is annoying and I have a feeling it will start to show by 2026/27 with the 3 summer tournaments in a row.

After spending just over two weeks in USA and three grand (!!!) we fly home today. Been an expensive trip but one I’m looking forward to repeating should we make it to the next one in four years. Met some great people out here. There was a fair few Mancs at Anity Hall watching the final yesterday. All gutted but still smiling. Up the Blues, the best team in the land and all the world.

As expected Chelsea get the full wankfest treatment from the BBC. No snidey comments about how much money they've spent recently to assemble that squad. No arsey questions about their cheating scandal and the ongoing investigation by the PL into it. No criticism about their recent £27m UEFA fine. All possible punches pulled as usual, when it's not City.

Trump’s keeping the trophy in the Oval Office. That sound about right for the sham of a tournament. It’s makes the Full Members Cup look serious.

No, it's bollocks.

Firstly, because the rights were $1 billion, not $2 billion, and

Secondly, because the rights were awarded in December 2024 but the 2034 World Cup was awarded in October 2023.
The Saudis underwrote the tournament then. £1bn in prize money. £500m in FIFA solidarity payments whatever that means and £500m into Gianni Infantino’s back pocket FIFA’s coffers. All totally unrelated.
