We were. We did exactly this to the same team — Real Madrid — in a competition that counted much more than this one. Now it's their turn. I respect what Enrique's done. I didn't think it could be done in France, where the league is so weak that it doesn't normally keep teams on their mettle.

Just saying. This new cwc format is just another cash cow for FIFA to cream off the top. It's been ill advised to play it at the end of the season, luckily us going out when we did MIGHT have saved another calamitous season.

The way tickets are sold in groups or by city would help to fill grounds for the less attractive fixtures. Also a country like Finland would bring a surprising number of travelling fans with the introduction of budget airlines since 96.

I meant by city as in metropolis, buying tickets for ‘all games in Manchester’ or ‘all games in Leeds’ rather than Manchester City which is how tickets have been sold previously by UEFA.

It's the dollars under the pitch which makes a bad top surface. The more dollars the more uneven and unfair the pitch which should be a level playing field. The pitch is also compromised by the large number of troughs surrounding it which also extends into the boardrooms and high places.
