It's Quiet the £250m return

The issue is we can’t solve our defensive issues when Pep’s favourites remain. Ake and Stones(one needs to go) can’t stay fit, Akanji is a hit or miss when fit and always a miss when he’s got a knock, Dias and Ederson/Ortega aren’t focused and Gvardiol can’t do it all. Our other defensive options are basically juvenile.

We also just can’t let all of the above excluding Dias and Gvardiol leave next season on frees because then we’d be at a disadvantage from the start when negotiating for new players. It’s now they leave or we’re gonna need at least 2 players every window for the next year and a half.

If some don’t leave we’ll be stuck in a transition period for at least 2 seasons (new players coming in and Pep leaving)

EDIT: @Vester also raised a good point about what’s ahead of our defence. Same issues there too. We have to sell some of our older midfielders this season or majority of the older ones leave for free, which is good. But it leaves us with loads of gaps if some of the defenders leave simultaneously.

It's like being in a school playground in here at times - Some of those wetting their breeches are married with kids ffs. Dippers this, dippers that, Trent this, Diaz that, fucking Salah this, Isak that. Oh and Wirtz can piss higher up the bog wall than Cherki. Get a grip ffs.
It was ever thus, and then we went and won everything.

There are some absolute whoppers on here, IMO.

And the sad part is that we have achieved so much in the recent past and people are still out of belief. We still have Pep and a world class squad and the people are surrendering the league on the basis of f**king RUMORS!!!!

I mean COME ON GUYS!! At least wait for them to actually sign the players you are basing your surrender on!!!

We did our buying for this window early, in January and June.
Marmoush, Reis, Gonzalez, Kusanov, Ait Nouri, Cherki, Reijnders, and Echeverri have all arrived and give lots of hope for now, and the future.

Look Cherki, Reijnders and RAN are excellent buys. However from the January lot of players Marmoush is the sole person that Pep has utilised.

I'm not really disagreeing with you, I agree the defenders, as most of the team, was not good enough last season.

But I think many of our defensive issues comes from players further up the field. Not enough of the attacking players track back (at least not good enough), meaning that when the oppositions parked bus gets the ball and boot it long they end up in 3v2s, 2v2s, 2v1s almost every time, situations that will inevitably result in chances no matter of how good defenders we have. These kind of threatening counters against us used to happen 2-3 times/match or so before, this season it feels like it happened 10+ times more or less every game. Rodri back will obviously help, but the problem is bigger than just Rodri not playing, not to mention he wont play every game next season either. Until we start attack and defending as a team again it doesn't matter which defender we sign, prime Maldini would look like a liability in last seasons team.

And in the back end of the season we had a clear priority, and a points haul second-to-none.
Now it is time to clear the decks of some of those players who have reached the end of their time with us. It is just a natural phase, and we look forward to the new start.

I am still for Akanji+ Stones leaving. Reis and Khusanov should take their place. Ake, Gvardiol and Dias should be good enough.
With some luck someone like Livramento is still a possibility unless there is some hidden RB talent out there which makes me wonder if there‘s really not one in the championship or lower table of the PL who has the talent to reach a certain level.

If we can lose 8 players then we can also gain 2 players hopefully. MGW + RB would make a nice window. And yes I’ve been a MGW sympathizer from the start. His engine is needed in the middle. One of our players has to be direct and also being able to start a counter ( not possible with Bernardo and Gundogan and Nico G.)

More than happy to be proven wrong but judging from the CWC, those January signings have a higher likelihood of replicating a Philips career.

I genuinely couldn't give a fuck what Liverpool do in the transfer window.

I'm more concerned about what we do this summer, Yes we've signed three players but it's simply not enough to compete for the top prizes.

We can't afford to go into another season with Nunes as our right back and our centre backs continuing to be fannies. We need to address our defensive problems before this window shuts.
Seems like a lot to do tbh

I am glad the fuckers weren't in the trenches at Everton and the cultdome in the 70s and 80s.

He is a free hit being HG.

No downsides to keeping him, when he plays he will be good, when he inevitably gets injured, we have the depth for it.

Edit: Talking about Stones

I still firmly believe we need to strengthen our squad with a top class right back and an elite central defender to partner Gvardiol. While it's true that, if Stones/Ake stay fit and Dias rediscovers his best form, we could manage for another season without reinforcing the centre-back position, but the reality is that such assumptions carry risk we can no longer afford. The teams around us are strengthening at great pace.

We're at a point where our rivals are actively improving, and we cannot afford to stand still or rely on best-case/plug the gap scenarios. It's no longer enough to hope for fitness or form. If we truly want to get back to the top of the table and reclaim our crown, we need to be proactive, and not reactive.

That may mean making difficult decisions - including moving Stones and Ake on if we can replace them with genuinely world class alternatives. As for the right-back position, there's no room for debate as it is a clear area of weakness that must be addressed this window. Entering the new season without resolving it would be a serious oversight, and could cost us a top 4 place - let alone a title.

And have you any reason to suspect that the management haven't considered the above, and have plans in place to deal with the issues before the end of the window ?

City don't advertise their plans through the media in general, but still manage to do the deals they consider necessary.
