I'm not sure that works unless all kids have their birthdays at the start of the tax year.

The tax thing isn't something I hugely care about - I was just pointing out that there would be some young people paying tax. I think 16/17 year olds are starting to contribute to adult society - many of them are working, even if they're not earning huge amounts of money. They're having to make decisions about whether they go down a practical work route, or study. Whether they go to University and rack up huge loan debts that the majority of older voters don't have. Plenty are a lot more switched on that many of the adults I know, and given so many of the issues society faces are going to have a huge impact on the next generation, I'm quite happy that they have some input :)

They stop being 16 on their birthday, the vast majority leaving school will be 16, some nearly 17. My point being 16 year olds won’t likely pay tax, 17 year olds on the other hand will be more likely to.

Like you I don’t really care much about the tax argument. Lowering voting to 17 would be more sensible in my opinion, mostly because I have concerns about how it may distract them during their GCSE’s etc but it’s a fairly moot point.

Yes, Mrs MB place of work is going through it now - she’s had her form if she wants to apply.

Never thought I’d see the day nurses were being offered redundancy from hospitals but it’s happening all over this country. All under Labour’s watch.

Our NHS trust has just had MARS. The terms were shite. No where near enough applicants so Voluntary next (rumoured to be 1st Jan).

It’s a bloody sad state of affairs and very unsettling for a lot of staff.

Trusts have to balance the books and are £7bn over budget and have been told to reduce the corporate functions. 3 of our local trusts, including the one Mrs MB works in, now have one CEO, but they need time to create one HR team, one facility team, etc etc. They need a HR department so can’t really lay them off but they can still function with a few less nurses.

Hope all goes well for you in your “reorganisation”. Stressful times.

I also agree that 17 year olds are more likely to be paying tax than 16 year olds.

But if you earn enough to pay tax during the tax year that you're 16 turning 17, then you're paying tax while you're 16.

I can see the argument for 17 too. Although, given that we have voting from 16 in Wales and Scotland, it would feel like a bit of a fudge.
