The no increase in tax for 'working people' was a way to get voted in. If you fucked off vat and other taxes then income tax would have to be at eye watering levels esoecially as those who avoid tax would now pay even less. Also if you're skint you can adjust your spending to bring down your tax burden by avoiding paying vat.I know they said they wouldn’t do it but why nit just raise income tax by 1p, instead of all these other taxes, surely it would cover any black hole. In fact the whole tax system needs changing, why nit just have one high income tax rate and fuck off VAT etc Cleverer people than me will probably tell me why it wouldn’t work, but it seems that all these “tax dodges” could be wiped out by simplifying the system.
